Mark Barry Roth

Loudon, NH - Mark Barry Roth of Loudon, N.H. passed away peacefully at home on Friday the 22nd of August 2025.

Mark was born in Allentown, PA. to the late Ruth and Irving Roth. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister Barbara S. Roth.

Mark had a successful career in education. Serving, over the course of his career, as assistant principal of Concord High School, principal of John Stark High School, principal of Goffstown High School and superintendent in the Upper Valley.

As the founding principal of John Stark, his visionary leadership brought cutting edge innovation to secondary education. The school-wide culture of regard, respect and integrity gave rise to an oasis of accomplishment and creativity.

Mark was a member of Leadership New Hampshire class of 1998.

Upon retiring, Mark studied Non-Violent Communication, a communication framework based on empathy and non-violence founded by Marshall Rosenberg in the 60's.

He worked for Mediate Your Life, a training company, developing skills to help others through conflict to understanding. Mark was passionate in his practice of NVC sharing his empathic support and singular wisdom with family and friends as well.

He engaged NVC with pleasure via Zoom with four friends every week for 10 years.

Full of life, Mark loved sailing his shoal-draft Dovekie on Winnepesaukee and the St. John's River in New Brunswick. He sailed in the Caribbean with his family which he said was the adventure of a lifetime.

He also enjoyed playing golf, walking in the woods with his cockapoo, Duke, and cooking amazing meals, many of which are unforgettable.

Most especially, he enjoyed practicing and teaching Tai Chi Chuan for 30+ years. He travelled to California, France, Denmark and China to deepen his practice.

Mark is survived by Helen, his wife of 53 years, son Isaac Roth {partner Alison Whitehead and her son, Brayden Whitehead}, daughter Eleanor Veysey {husband Dan Veysey}, brother Robert L. Roth of Cambridge MA. {wife Adalicia Roth and their children Daniel and Hannah Roth}, cousins Dr. Stuart Roth of Baltimore, Maryland {wife Anne} Michael Roth of Boca, FL. {wife Laura}, Bruce Roth of Rochester, N.Y. {wife Donni} and Joel Roth of California {wife Jill}. Mark is survived by his Uncle Bernie who celebrated his 100th birthday. Mark will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, compassion, wisdom and strength. He will be missed by his family and his many friends whom he dearly loved.

Mark and I became friends in the late 1960s when we were both students at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. I´m proud to say we became friends for life. His humor, intelligence and culinary skills are delightful memories. And for some reason, we talked a lot about shoes. Will miss him.

Mark and I grew up together in Troy, NY. Our parents were good friends and we all lived in the same few blocks. Mark had a great sense of humor and was really passionate about things he loved. We lost touch after college but his parents often kept me informed as to his accomplishments. My sympathies for his wife and family. I am sure his passing has left a huge hole!

Mark was a kind, patient, wonderful man. I feel very fortunate to have been able to spend time with Mark as we explored events in our lives and found ways to incorporate Non Violent Communication and other life affirming teachings into our lives to the best of our abilities. Mark was a mentor to me, and my life was enriched by his generous sharing and wisdom. He is greatly missed.
