Matthew Landis Obituary

Matthew Turner Landis (Matt), age 42, died unexpectedly of severe pneumonia on the morning of December 8th. He is the son of Linda Turner Landis of Concord and Roy Landis (deceased). In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother David Franklin Landis and David's fiancee Daisy West of Austin, Texas; his girlfriend Katy Rompala; his many close friends he considered family; and his valued mentors Doug Davis and Tom Croteau of Concord. Matt believed it was important to live his life as a good and grateful person and he did so.

Matt loved Concord and the feeling of community, and he never had any desire to leave except for much anticipated hunting and fishing trips with friends. He played hockey at Concord High and whatever Matt may have lacked in technical skill was compensated for with spirited energy and aggressiveness in defense.

Matt had a degree in criminal justice but wanted the freedom of being outside. As a result, he built up a successful landscaping/plowing business, Landis Lawncare, through hard work and an incredible work ethic. He relished the more challenging snowstorms and treated those weather events like a game day. He valued his customers, prioritizing their needs and developing personal relationships with many of them.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, having developed a love of the outdoors from his father. Those outings with his closest friends were among the happiest times of his life. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved girlfriend Katy.

Visiting hours will be held at Bennett Funeral Home in Concord on Wednesday, December 12, from 4-6:30, and a gathering of friends in honor of Matt will be held afterwards at the Chamberlin House at 44 Pleasant Street in Concord.
