Maurice R. Boucher

1944 - 2016

PENACOOK – Maurice R. Boucher, 71, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday May 8, 2016, at his home.  He was born in Concord to Camile and Paulette (Moreau)  Boucher in May of 1944 and was a resident of Penacook for the majority of his life.  He attended the Immaculate Conception School and was a graduate of St. Johns High School in Concord with the class of 1962.

After he graduated Maurice joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War.  After serving his country he went to New Hampshire College and earned a bachelors degree in business.  He purchased and operated Vets Market in Penacook in 1971 until 1985 and soon had a partner in his brother Larry when the purchased Thirty Pines Store and operated it until 1982.  After being a business owner Maurice went back to school and earned a degree in education becoming a school teacher in the Merrimack Valley School District and eventually retiring from Timberlane High School.

Maurice was a life long member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Penacook, the American Legion Post 31 in Penacook and the Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as being a member of the National Education Association.  He was also very active in coaching in the Penacook Boscawen area for youth athletics in little league baseball, softball and basketball. He eventually went on to coach the Junior Varsity and then the Varsity Basketball Programs at Bishop Brady High School in Concord for a number of years.

Maurice will be remembered by his family for his love of sports,  his passion for coaching started with his girls in softball in the 1970's and basketball, he continued with his coaching with his son in basketball and baseball and continued that passion later in his life with his grandchildren.  Maurice also had a love of nature and enjoyed early morning rides by himself or the occasional passenger to view his town and look for wild life.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with many of his friends, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  However he will most fondly be remember for his Sunday dinners with plenty of love and laughter with  his children and grandchildren.  

Maurice is predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Pierre Boucher, George Boucher and Robert Boucher.  He is survived by his companion of seven years, Gail Groves of Penacook; two daughters, Giuliana Thurber and her husband, Andrew of Penacook and Tammy Lanzano and her husband, Anthony of Penacook; his son, Anthony Boucher and his wife, Rebecca of Penacook; his grandchildren Megan, Olivia and Christopher Thurber all of Penacook, Nichole, Emily and Devyn Lanzano all of Penacook, Ryan and Alexander Boucher both of Penacook; his good friend and mother of his children, Elaine (Poggio) Boucher of Penacook; his sisters, Pauline Allen of Norwood, Mass. and Helene Boucher-Bourque of Penacook; his brothers, Paul Boucher of Dover and Larry Boucher and his wife, Linda of Penacook; several sister-in-laws; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, 42 Washington St. in Penacook.  

Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, May 16, at 12 p.m. in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery with military honors.  Pastor Terry Odell will officiate.
