Michael Geary Obituary

Michael B. Geary

Concord, NH — Michael, 64, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife, six children and his sister on Sunday, February 6th after a lengthy battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. He will always be remembered for his contagious laugh, sense of humor, loyalty and his kind heart.

He was born April 2, 1957 to Col. Herbert J. Geary, Jr. and Betty Anne (Burney) Floyd. Mike and his family grew up on the Heights in Concord; where he graduated from Concord High School Class of 1975. He joined the Army National Guard and three years later enlisted in the US Air Force (active duty) as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist on the F-111 and F-16 aircrafts. He married his high school sweetheart, Donna, and they traveled the world while in the Air Force – stationed at RAF Lakenheath, England; Columbus AFB, MS; a solo tour of duty to Kunsan, Korea; Pease AFB, NH until they closed; Cannon AFB, NM and Hanscom AFB, MA. He retired in 1997 as MSgt after 23 years of service.

Following his military retirement Mike began working for the State of NH in the Dept. of Safety – E911 and State Police Communications. After retiring from the State of NH he worked Court Security in the District Court System. He was always a hard worker and enjoyed everyone he worked with.

One of Mike's greatest passions and proudest accomplishments in life were his studies of Martial Arts. He began as a child working to develop his skills, ultimately achieving Grand Master (10th degree black belt). After mastering his form and gaining guidance from countless instructors, including Buddhist Monks while stationed in Korea, he developed his own form - Chinese Herchun Karate Kung Fu. He loved sharing his craft with his children, grandchildren and his students of all ages.

Mike was very active in the Concord community. He was a member of the Concord Knights of Columbus, Council #112; the VFW, Post 1631; Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and Christ the King Parish to mention a few of many.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Donna (Martel) and through this marriage they had six children; Julie Wilcox, Christopher Geary, Patricia Gleason (Holly), Kimberly Abbott (Colin), Charles Geary (fiancé Kayla), Robert Geary (Elizabeth) and they became grandparents to 12 grandchildren; Matthew Wilcox, Rachel Wilcox, Dylan Wilcox, Alexis Bouchard, Trentin Geary, Michael Bouchard, Samantha Wilcox, Riley Geary, Ophelia Abbott, Maxwell Geary, Griffin Geary and Palmer Abbott. His family was the center of his life. He is also survived by his brother Herbert J. Geary, III (Ken); his sister Autumn Woodbury (James); his step-brothers David Floyd (Paula) and Jeffrey Floyd (Sherry) and nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his mother, Betty Ann Floyd, his father Herbert J. Geary, Jr. and his grandparents Herbert and Margaret Geary and Glen and Doris Burney.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday February 13 from 2 to 5PM at Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St. Concord.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday February 14 at 10AM at Christ the King Parish/St. John's, 72 South Main St. Concord.

Burial with military honors will follow in the Soucook Cemetery, Josiah Bartlett Rd., Concord.

I met Mike when I was in college, working night security. For such an accomplished person, he barely spoke of it. Such a kind, humble guy. He came to my police academy graduation a couple years later, to my surprise, to show his support. We kept in touch, on and off, through the years. Always quick to smile with that contagious sense of humor. Easily, one of my favorite humans.

I remember Mike when we were stationed at RAF Lakenheath (1979-1981) I could tell that he was devoted to his wife, Family, job and his art. Though we trained together for only two years I learned a lot. I will miss the training and working on the flight line. He was OMS and I was FMS (48th tactical fighter wing). God´s speed Sensi

Sad to hear about Mike´s passing. I knew and worked him at Lakenheath. In 1988 we had a chance meeting on the flightline at Pease, and being the family man he was invited me to dinner with Donna and the kids. I wish I had known the family was in NH as we have been in Hampton since 1989. RIP, Mike and condolences to the entire Geary family.

Dear Donna, Autumn, Herb, and family,
I was so very sorry to hear about Mike's death. He was "one of the kids next door" when we were growing up and my brother's lifelong good friend. Our paths crossed every now and then over the years and I was always so impressed by how gentle, happy, faith-filled and family-oriented he was. And I loved that wonderful laugh! Even when the old neighborhood gang got together for lunch a few years ago and he shared his recent diagnosis with us, the happy kid next door was still so evident. He has left behind a real legacy of love and family. May he rest in peace.

I went to school with Mike but didn't know him well until I met up with him years later. We worked at the Dept of Safety together. I was immediately drawn to Mike as he was so kind, outgoing and friendly! Yes, he always did have a smile, and that's what drew you to him. Please accept my sincerest condolences on his passing. He was a wonderful human and it is evident in the family and friends that he leaves behind. Rest easy Mike.
