Patricia "Pat" Jacobsmeyer
Concord, NH — Patricia A. (McDonough) Jacobsmeyer passed away in the early morning hours of Good Friday, April 15, 2022. She was known to family and friends as Pat.
Pat was born in 1932 in Portsmouth, NH to Robert and Elspeth (Prichard) McDonough. Pat lost her father to a construction accident when she was four years old, and she and her two younger brothers, Bob and Jack, grew up in Portsmouth with the loving care of their mother and the support of Pat's father's family during the Great Depression and World War II. Pat became an accomplished pianist during her school years. She attended the University of New Hampshire from 1950 to 1953 and graduated with a BA in French from the University of Michigan in 1954.
Pat met her husband, John H. (Jack) Jacobsmeyer Jr. (Maj. Gen., USAF), in 1950 at the University of New Hampshire while they were both in attendance as undergraduates. They were married in 1953 and spent 65 years together. Pat chose to stay home to raise her four children, support Jack's Air Force career, support her faith community, and engage in volunteer work. Pat focused her early volunteer work on her children's Girl Scout and Cub Scout organizations. Pat adjusted well to the mobility of military life; she was a consummate hostess and gracious guest for all the social events that created continuity for families who were constantly on the move.
After Jack's retirement from the Air Force in 1981, Pat joined him in their new rural life in the small town of Northwood, NH, where she helped with the daily animal care chores, and helped restore their Revolutionary War-era farmhouse. Pat's volunteer work touched many aspects of Northwood life, including supporting St. Joseph's Church as organist and member of the St. Joseph's Women's Club. Pat served as President of the Harvey Lake Women's Club and member of the Friends of Northwood Library. She also ran the Northwood Emergency Food Pantry for 30 years. The 2015 Northwood Town Report was dedicated to her for her years of service to the town. Along with Jack, Pat also sponsored foreign exchange students seeking to learn animal husbandry. Pat had a passion for the game of bridge and was famous for hosting many get-togethers to play with friends.
Pat will always be remembered for her devotion to her Catholic faith and her dedication to family and community service. Her gift was in social graciousness; everyone felt comfortable around Pat. She was always aware of the needs of friends and guests and ready to cheerfully help on every occasion. In addition, her outstanding management skills ensured that any organization she worked with would be the better for her intelligent, compassionate leadership.
Pat is predeceased by her husband, John H. Jacobsmeyer, Jr., and her brother Robert McDonough. She is survived by her brother John "Jack" (Polly) McDonough, and by her children, Joanne Elizabeth (Matthew) Sprott, Jay Michael (Joyce) Jacobsmeyer, Susan Eileen (Paul) Kowalski, John Henry III (Katrina Balling) Jacobsmeyer, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
