Patricia Prescott Obituary

Patricia Patsy Francis Healy Prescott, age 94, died of COVID-19 pneumonia after battling Alzheimer's Disease on Friday, December 18, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Patsy and her beloved twin Polly were born in Concord, N.H., on September 25, 1926, to John and Margaret Healy. One of ten children, she grew up on the grounds of St. Paul's School roaming the playing fields and swimming in Turkey Pond.

She graduated from Concord High School and Mount Saint Mary's nursing school in Hooksett, N.H. along with her twin. After marrying Robert Prescott, she ended her nursing career to start a family. A devoted Catholic, she and Bob went on to have 11 children and over 66 years of marriage.

Patsy and Bob's large home on South Street in Concord was for decades a hub of activity, singalongs, improvised plays and parties. Both loved music and dancing. Each St. Patrick's Day, Patsy rolled back the carpets to Irish Jig with her children and teach the steps to neighbors. She welcomed guests for annual celebrations of the Feast of the Epiphany, and would always set an extra place at dinner for those in need of comfort and company.

Guided by unwavering faith and empathy, she took in young people with behavioral health issues for extended periods of time and supported organizations that treat mental illness. In the 60s and 70s, she was active in the peace movement, co-founded the New Hampshire Right to Life chapter, and campaigned for George McGovern.

Patsy was an artist at heart and encouraged creativity in all of her children. She loved painting, drawing, gardening and arranging flowers for Our Lady of Lourdes in Northwood, N.H., her parish for 30 years. She embraced the world through her love of classic literature especially Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and George Eliot.

Patsy personified Yankee thriftiness riding her bicycle throughout the streets of Concord, shopping at the food co-op before it was fashionable, and recycling before it was mandatory. She was truly ahead of her time.

Along with her parents, Patsy was predeceased by her husband Bob, son Steven, twin Polly (Swenson), and siblings, Mary, Margaret, Alice, John, Muffy, Nancy, and George.

She is survived by 10 children, Robert G. Prescott, II, William Prescott, Thomas Prescott (Pamela), James Prescott, Daniel Prescott (Valerie), Gail Heitmann (Scott), Margaret Butler, Denise Prescott (Eugene Paletta), Virginia Prescott (Matt Arnett), and Mark Prescott (Lisa Stringfield-Prescott); nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Sally Keniston; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Hundreds of family and friends followed and shared her COVID battle on Facebook and Patsy's loved ones are grateful for their support.

Patsy was joyfully remembered in a virtual memorial service and laid to rest at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord next to her husband and son. A celebration of her life will take place in the Summer of 2021.

Donations in her memory may be made to The National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), of which she was an active member. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that you wear a mask to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Bennett Funeral Home of Concord, NH.

Aunt Patsy and I shared the love of big families, art and St Patrick. She was a joy to be around, quick to find the good in others and quite passionate about our Catholic Religion.
A Patsy and U Bob were quick to share their love and home with not only their 11 children but any other who wanted to visit. When they rented King's Camp on the Lake it was no big deal that our family of 10 joined their family of 13 with a few more beans & hotdogs, corn on the cob we had great fun enjoying each other's company.
Later I got the honor of hosting their grandson, Ryan Prescott for his Sr year of HS and Patsy and Bob would come down for the majority of his sporting events and his graduation from Amherst's Souhegan HS. Quick to smile, break into a song or dance, or to tell a fun joke. Quick to be appreciative of all that God gave to them.
Now we are quick to be appreciative of all that they gave to us including the sharing of love of family, song, music, God and life.
May you Rest in Peace Aunt Patsy and join Uncle Bob and your son Stevie in Heaven.
Love and Respect always,
Patty Healy-Osborne, your niece

I had the great fortune to be a neighbor of Pat and Bob and family on South Street during the 1980s. What a blessed introduction to the city of Concord. My heart goes out to you all for this great loss. Prayers for God's comfort and strength to you during this sad time.

Mrs. Prescott, as I would call her throughout the 1970s, was always very kind and attentive to me. I always thought back then that " this is the busiest woman on planet Earth". And in 2021, I stand by that statement.

There was no house I've ever known that was filled with such commotion but yet order. I was drawn to be quite good friends with Steven and I always had a great respect for Jinny. I pretended I was Jinny's body guard as we often walked home from Conant elementary together.

There was life in that house because of Mrs Prescott- great intense life. She always welcomed me there at that large strange but beautiful home on South Street near the Bow, New Hampshire line. I remember it like it was yesterday.

One time I was very sick at about 10 years old with a nosebleed that wouldn't stop bleeding. Mrs. Prescott came to our house a half mile away and spent a solid 2 hours there helping me mend and doing what nurses do.

Mrs. Prescott would inspire me to believe in the Bible. She was my first spiritual teacher. And that seed still grows in me today. One verse I remember from her was that "many are called but few are chosen". She is without question one of the glorious few and she reaps tremendous rewards in heaven now.

No more Pain. No more Tears. No more sickness.

Thank you God for Mrs Prescott and for her wonderful large family and for letting me swim at their camp a dozen times or so at Lake Massasecum.

May your grief anchor you to this place until your head can accept what your heart never will. I loved her... the kindest woman with the most generous heart. My deepest sympathies to the Prescott family. This is a tough one.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I adored Steven Prescott and graduated with him at Concord High. I can see his smile in Patsy. May all your wonderful memories of her sustain you during this difficult time.
