Paul Sullivan Obituary

Paul Sullivan, 71, of Concord, long-time former resident of Amherst, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Carlyle Place, Bedford, after a period of declining health.

Born in Boston, he was the son of an Irish immigrant, Joseph Sullivan, and his wife, Kathryn (Tarr) Sullivan. Raised and educated in Billerica, Mass., Paul was a graduate of Keith Academy and St. Anselm College, earning a Bachelor's Degree in English. Paul served as the President of Infantine Insurance, Inc. for many years.  He took pride in the service he provided to customers and caring for his employees. He made many great friends throughout his career and will be remembered for his quick wit.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Paul was the pillar of strength for his family. He worked diligently each and every day to provide for his family, and worked incredibly hard to make sure his children started their lives free of hardship. In his younger years, Paul devoted countless hours to coaching youth sports in Amherst. He was especially passionate about coaching baseball, and years later could still recount highlights from games. For the past 15 years, he and Dottie loved to travel around New England to watch their grandchildren participate in a myriad of sports activities.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Batchelder and husband, Peter of Amherst; two sons, Shawn Sullivan and wife, Robyn of Scituate, Mass. and Matthew Sullivan and wife, Tiffany of Bedford; five grandchildren, Owen and Lily Batchelder, Aidan and Keegan Sullivan and Quinn Sullivan; sister, Linda Morse and husband, Robert; many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (O'Connell) Sullivan, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.

Visitation hours for Paul and his wife, Dorothy, will be held in the Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium on Wednesday, March 22, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Private services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, and in honor of the joy Paul and Dorothy derived from watching their grandchildren play sports, the family requests that donations be made in their names to either Souhegan Activities Fund – Athletics; P.O. Box 1152, Amherst, NH 03031 or SHS Boys Basketball Boosters; 475 School St. Ste. 13, Marshfield, MA 02050.

Oh Paul, it makes me so sad that I won't be getting your daily phone calls at the office asking for "my little buddy". I hope you meet up with my mom soon (you can find her in the Heavenly Choir), like you she loved a good laugh and I know you will become fast friends. May you and Dottie RIP. My heartfelt sympathy to your family.

To Shawn, Kim, Matt and your families - the news of your parents' passing is heartbreaking for me. While I knew them in a past chapter, I can vividly recall their love and adoration for you all. I can only imagine the pride and love they felt watching you all become adults and rewarding them with grandchildren. Your house thrived on quick wit and laughter. I can still hear your mom's raspy laugh and your dad's chuckle. I still have her lilies in my gardens. I am grateful to have known and loved them. My deepest sympathy to you all. XO

It doesn't seem that long ago when Paul interviewed me in the Amherst office back in 1980. He had a great sense of humor and we shared a lot of laughs. The thing I will remember most about Paul was how much he loves his family, & was so proud of his children & grandchildren. His spirit lived in in all of you....he and Dottie are holding hands now & smiling down on you.
