Peter Coe Obituary

Peter Coe

Vero Beach, FL - Peter Coe of Vero Beach, husband, father, artist, quietly slipped into the· arms of his Lord on January 17, 2024.

Born in Bellmore, Long Island, New York on May 27, 1936, Peter joined the Army Core of Engineers at age 18 and spent two years in Germany building bridges and youth athletic fields. After returning to the States he began working in the construction industry, met and married Carol Holihan and together they raised four children.

After his wife passed away Peter met, fell in love with and married Carole Pinckney, bringing two more children into the Coe family fold.

While Peter's professional life revolved around construction projects, his personal joy was found in traveling the country, camping, and discovering new places full of wonder with Carole.

After several winters spent "snow birding," the retired couple decided to make Vero Beach their permanent home. Peter was in his element. The artist in him looked around and started to capture his surroundings on canvas. His vibrant landscape and marine paintings, frequently described as "happy," won numerous awards.

Peter immersed himself in area art activities, making friends along the way. He was also instrumental in establishing the Galleries at First Presbyterian Church where for the first few years Peter helped select the featured artists and curated quarterly exhibits, seen throughout the church campus.

Peter's final illness, due to lifelong genetic hemolytic anemia which he fought with stamina, strength, and dedication to Tai Chi, was short-lived. The last words in his journal were: "great trip, lots of fun, all is well."

Peter is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carole, 6 children, 18 grandchildren, and a dozen great-grandchildren. He touched so many lives and will be remembered as a compassionate, gentle, and talented man. He will be missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Millennium Cremation Service, Vero Beach. Condolences may be shared online at www.millenniumcremationservice.com.
