Richard Crossman Obituary

Richard Edward Crossman, 87, of King George, Va., passed away while celebrating his birthday with family, Tuesday, October 25, 2011, in the Hospice House in Concord. He was born October 13, 1924, in Ira, Vt., the son of Gerald H. and Grace (Merrithew) Crossman.

Mr. Crossman received an honorary degree in theology from Bell Meadows College. He was a missionary for the African Inland Mission and a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, Va.

Mr. Crossman enjoyed reading, gardening and taking long walks.

He married Pauline Bertha Graichen. She passed away September 17, 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Kantz of Boscawen; four sons, Richard W. Crossman of King George, Va., Joel A. Crossman of Loudon, James Crossman of Boscawen, and Karl R. Crossman of Waxhaw, N.C.; four brothers, Ted Crossman of Waxhaw, N.C., the Rev. Ivan Crossman of Carver, Mass., the Rev. Dean Crossman of Pittsford, Vt. and John Crossman of Ira, Vt.; a sister, Olive Stevens of Elmer, N.J.; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday, October 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Tossing Funeral Home, 39 Washington St., Rutland, Vt.

The graveside service will be held Saturday, October 29, at 11 a.m. in East Clarendon Cemetery in Clarendon, Vt.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House, 240 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301.

Tossing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
