Richard Pervonga Obituary

Richard Harold "Dick" Pervonga

Concord, NH - Richard Harold Pervonga died on March 23, 2023 at Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord, NH.

Richard (Dick) Pervonga was born July 14, 1927, in Tupper Lake, New York. He was the son of Harold H. Pervonga of Tupper Lake and M. Josephine (Nesberg) Pervonga of Johnstown, New York. Sadly, Dick lost his mother in 1933. He resettled in Springfield after his father was remarried to Gertrude Eva (Kirby) Pervonga.

Richard graduated from Classical High School, Springfield, MA and received a BA from The American International College in Springfield, MA in 1954. He has a MA from Boston University and received a Wall Street Journal scholarship for future teaching of journalism.

A veteran, he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a teacher at West Springfield High School from 1955 to 1965 and at Classical High School in Springfield from 1965 to 1985. He worked in the English Departments specializing in drama, creative writing, and journalism.

Dick was a classical music enthusiast and a lifelong avid skier. He and Leonard (Lenny) Schultz, his partner of 35 years, spent many years hiking, skiing and trekking on five continents and countless countries. After retiring from teaching, Dick and Lenny moved to Sutton, NH. While in Sutton, Lenny taught Culinary Arts at Concord High School and Dick worked the ski slopes in the White Mountains. They then relocated to Brookfield, NH.

After Lenny's death, Dick moved to Havenwood for the last chapter of his life. At Havenwood, he was a member of the Geezer Group and the bowling team. He was also a member of Capital Gay Men.

Dick was predeceased by his partner Lenny and his brother Gary H. Pervonga. He is survived by his sister-in-law Marie Morin Pervonga, his niece Kathy Pervonga Pelletier and his partner's children Kathleen, Lenny Jr., Keithan and Jeffrey. He also leaves behind many close friends (that he referred to as family) from West Springfield, MA, Connecticut, New Hampshire and residents and staff at Havenwood in Concord.

Havenwood will have an online service for Dick in the next few weeks. Please call Havenwood for details. There will be a celebration of Dick's life for family and friends at a later date.
