Richard Weed Obituary

Richard Weed

New Port Richey, FL - Richard Joseph Weed, 83, of Hampton, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada, passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a battle with cancer.

Richard was born on March 17, 1941. He is predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Albina (Howard) Weed, of Manchester, N.H.

He attended St. Anselm's College in Goffstown, N.H., where he obtained his bachelor's degree in business. He took graduate courses at Brown University in Providence, R.I., with the Stonier School of Banking, sponsored by the American Bankers Association. He later attended Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., for studies in banking as well. He worked in the financial field for many years, primarily at New Hampshire Savings Bank. In his later career, he did financial consulting for a number of local businesses. He dabbled in real estate his whole life, and moved to Bow, N.H., where he oversaw over 40 acres of land that he helped develop. Always keeping his real estate license active, he helped many family members become first-time homeowners, and offered financial advice to countless others.

In 1963, Richard married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Duval, and they built a life together with their four children. They lived in Merrimack, N.H., in their early marriage and then moved to Bow for the duration of their time together. He helped design and build two of their homes. They bought a summer home, known to all as The Camp, on Pleasant Lake in Deerfield, N.H., the site of many memorable gatherings over the years, including numerous family reunions. Richard served on many business, community, and school boards, including the Bow Planning Board, Bishop Brady High School Board, and the New Hampshire Savings Bank board of directors. After their children were grown, Richard and Joanne loved to travel and went on some outstanding trips to Bermuda, Aruba, Eastern Europe, and Canada. Richard loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible.

After living in New Hampshire most of his life, Richard left the state after Joanne's death in 2007 and split his time between Florida and Nova Scotia, Canada. He later married Eileen Price and together they shared a love of traveling, golf, and gathering with friends and family. He held dual citizenship in both Canada and the United States, and he and Eileen moved between their homes in Nova Scotia and Florida.

Many will remember Richard's St. Patrick's Day-themed birthday celebrations over the years. He said he often heard from old friends on his birthday because it was so easy for people to remember the date. If you knew him, his family asks that you to pause and remember him on St. Patrick's Day.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Albina Weed; his first wife, Joanne (Duval) Weed; his brother, Kenneth Weed; and his sister, Phyllis Garland.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen (Price) Weed, and his five children and their spouses: son Daniel and wife Jodi; son Jeffrey and wife Michelle; son David and wife Tina; son Peter Neiforth and wife Olivia Jiang; and daughter Karen (Weed) Vacaliuc and husband Bodgan. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services for Richard will take place on Aug. 3, 2024, at Christ the King Parish in Concord, N.H., beginning with a receiving of friends at 9 a.m. and followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Inurnment of ashes will happen later that same day at Evans Cemetery in Bow, N.H.

Dan, we were so sadden by your dad´s death. He was here a week before they headed back to Canada and will be forever grateful for that last visit. He was a wonderful friend for Bob and I and helped us through the banking fiasco and because of him we were able to save our business. He was so proud of all his kids and talked about you all often. So I hope you can find peace in knowing how much we all cared for him. An extremely good man.

Our condolences to all the Weed Family and appreciated the wonderful Obituary. We were close friends of both Richard and Joanne and a group of
St. Anselm's for several years then lost touch as we changed locations. We were pleased that he had a great life with his children and career, managed through the loss of Joanne, able to enjoy later life with Eileen.
Our sympathies and prayers to her, all the children and others who had the opportunity to know & love him.

You did well Dick and were a great friend!

Condolences to the family. I worked at NHSB for many years. Being also from Bow he convinced me to join the Planning Board. He always would check in with me and offer references after the closing of the bank. Caring man. Thank you Dick! See you down the road...
