Robert Selig Obituary

Robert Selig

Bradford, NH - United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Robert E. Selig Jr, 92, passed away on November 25, 2024 at home after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Gloucester MA on December 6, 1931, he was the eldest son of the late Robert E Selig Sr. and Kathleen K (McNamara) Selig.

Robert was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the class of 1950 where he was in the ROTC for 3 years as a captain. Right after high school Robert joined the United States Marine Corps where he served his country for 20 years. Robert was a Korean and Vietnam Veteran. During his 20 years he served on the USS Pittsburgh CA-72 heavy cruiser during the Korean War. After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1970, Robert moved to Bradford, NH.

During his first retirement Robert had owned and operated several businesses including Selig's Tire Service and a brush hog business. However, his most rewarding retirement job was delivering Meals on Wheels in the Kearsarge and Henniker area for 22 years, when he retired again at the age of 86.

Robert was a devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports as often as he could. He was an active member in the Marine Corps League Gary S. Dillion Detachment for 29 years.

He is survived by his partner, Peggy True; his three sons, Robert E. Selig III, Joseph P. Selig and Clayton J. Selig from Spartanburg, SC, and his daughter Emily G (Selig) Roy Bradford, NH; three grandchildren, Michael Selig Georgetown, MA, Kailyn Green and Matthew Roy Bradford, NH. In addition, Robert is predeceased by his sister, Patricia (Dagle) Selig, his brother, William Selig and former wife, Helen W. Maza.

Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, NH on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. They may also call on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 11:00-12:00. He was such a nice man, he delivered Meals on Wheels to my Mom Alexandra in Henniker for many years, and always put a smile on her face each delivery and us all for that matter. He had a great sense of humor and he would stay when my sister was here and talk all things military. He will be missed.

Bob was a couple of years older than me and my neighbor in Pigeon Cove in the sheep pasture. Once a Covah always a Covah!
