Robert Sprague Obituary

Robert "Rob" A. Sprague died peacefully at The Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care on June 21, 2020 in Lebanon, NH at the age of 64, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Rob was born in New London, NH to Ann Marie and Gerald Sprague, Sr.

He attended New London Elementary school and graduated from Kearsarge Regional High School in 1973.

He married Constance Powers, in 1992.

Rob lived in the New London and surrounding area, a previous employee of Labsphere Inc, a long time employee of The Sharon Group, and most recently at Avian Technologies, LLC and Village Sports.

His family remember him as a kind, patient, fun-loving, supportive and adventurous brother, husband, step-dad and Grampa, who hated cheese. He faced cancer with his usual, never-ending sense of humor.

Rob loved time with family and friends, traveling, and trying new activities and sports. He enjoyed motorcycles, biking, hiking, rock and ice climbing, skiing, kayaking, golf, disc golf, and, most recently, curling. However, his favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. With a welcoming smile on his face, he was a generous individual, who was always willing to lend a hand or help a friend. He was loved and will be missed by many.

Rob is predeceased by his parents, Ann Marie and Gerald Sprague of New London.

Surviving family members include his wife, Connie; Connie's daughter whom he loved like his own, Kimberly Cheever (husband Timothy Cheever), grandchildren, Caroline & Derek all of Wethersfield, CT, brothers Gerald Jr (Donna) of Chandler, AZ, and Philip (Donna) of Danbury, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care or The Norris Cotton Cancer Center at DHMC, both at One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756.

I'm saddened to hear of Rob's passing. We worked together at Labsphere and we shared a love of motorcycling. Over the years we would run into each other at the Post Office or other random places. He always had a smile and kind word. A gentleman through and through. My sincere condolences to his family in the loss of your Rob.

Oh, Connie and Kim. Our hearts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We have always been sorry that we did not get to know Rob better, but he had such a happy, bright smile and he certainly made you both so happy. That alone told us that he was truly wonderful. Keep hugging your memories and the pain will get better.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Rob when he was working for Larry Durocher. My family, the Bukers/Johnsons--and the Durochers were close friends and we saw Rob often. He was always kind, smiling and full of good humor. Sending my deepest sympathies to Connie, Gerry, Phil (NLHS '69 classmates of mine) and all of Rob's family.

Connie and family, We're so sorry to hear of Rob's passing. I got to know him as an adult through Village Sports and not just the smiley little kid at religious ed or in the hallways at school. He was one of the good guys for sure. Thinking of you all at this sad time.

So very sad to hear of Rob's passing. He represented everything good and kind in a human being. Although he was gone too soon, Connie, Kim, Tim, Caroline and Derek were so blessed to have him in their lives. He was such a loving, attentive Grandpa, husband, and father. He will be terribly missed and loved for all he did for others in his life. Will always remember his calm nature and beautiful smile.

Connie and Family. I miss working at Village Sports and a major reason for that is that I miss seeing my buddy Rob on a regular basis. We worked together for many years. Got the job done and had a whole lot
of fun doing it. He was the ultimate "fix it man". He dealt with many, many difficult fixes. Bike repair, ski tuning, skate sharpening, kayak repair, etc. etc. Anything that came through the front door. Got them done right
and never, in over 15 years, one complaint. He was an incredible guy.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

God, this is heartbreaking. Rob was such a nice guy. I have very fond memories of us skiing together at King Ridge in the 60s and 70s or of mountain biking together back in the 1980s, when the sport was young, and we were crazy enough to do it. We would go way off into the wilderness for hours and had many a fun time when we blew a tire out there or when a stick once took out half the spokes in one of my wheels and we had to limp back home. I had no idea he was sick. I saw him for the first time in many years about a year and a half ago when I stopped in at Village Sports for something and he was there, working on a bicycle and we had a long and nice chat about the old days, genuinely happy to see each other again. This is so sad.

Connie and Kim, my heart aches for you both. Robbie was such an amazing man! He is etched in my memories from childhood in New London with the Durocher Family. I wish I could have seen him as a grandfather, though it makes me smile to know how much he enjoyed his grandchildren. The world is an emptier place without him, but I believe with all my heart he has left his warm, loving spirit behind in all he touched. I hope you can find peace and comfort in your hearts at this time!
