Sarah Kelly Obituary

Sarah "Sally" R. Kelly, 97, formerly of Sheffield, Mass. and Greenlawn, N.Y., died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, in Concord, surrounded by loving family.

Born in Baltimore on Nov. 18, 1920, she was the youngest child of Elizabeth Wilson Rowe and Alvis Sylvester Rowe. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1942 with a degree in Theatre and performed in summer stock. Sally treasured her friends and experiences while stationed in Cairo, Egypt with the Women's Army Corps during World War II. Later she became an active member of Veterans for Peace.

Sally founded two clown ministries; one in her mid-70's in Sheffield, Mass., and in her mid-80's-- the Joyful Joeys-- at Havenwood-Heritage Heights.

She is survived by children Arthur and Jill Kelly of Acton, Maine, Elizabeth Kelly of Gilford, James Kelly and his wife, Jill Graham, of Sheffield, Mass., Barbara and Daniel Ruble of Minneapolis and Susan and Olaf Alksnis of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Kingsley Kelly, and a grandson, Jeremy.

Sally loved her family, lived her faith, strove to bring love and laughter to all she met, and often broke out with a song or story.

A service celebrating Sally's life will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Concord, 177 N. Main St., officiated by the Rev. Emilia Halstead, pastor.

In lieu of flowers, direct donations may be made to New Hampshire Peace Action, 4 Park Street, Suite #304, Concord, NH 03301, or Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR, 72202.

She was exraordinary. I will miss her as long as I live. She brought so much love into my life, and I will never forget. Now there is no one left alive who called me "honey." I'm so grateful she was busy and active and happy till the very end.

Dear Sally Kelly's Family,
It is with much sadness I read about Sally's passing. It was my pleasure and a great gift to know her and Kinsley while working at Havenwood-Heritage Heights. Her charming smile, gift of friendship, and amazing ability to make others laugh was just one of her many gifts. My sincere sympathy to all of her family. Carol Hanscom

My deepest sympathy to all of Sally's beloved family. Sally and I shared many beautiful moments over the years while I served as a chaplain at Havenwood. She brought light to all she met. May you be comforted in your loss.
