On behalf of the Chesterfield Support Staff Association, our deepest condolences to the McGilvray family. I did not know Scott personally, but had the chance to meet him when he attended Monadnock Regional Council meetings for NEA-NH. He always impressed me with his "can do" attitude, and his tireless advocacy for the students and educators in our state and beyond. He was such a kind and caring man. How fortunate we were to have had him as president of NEA-NH. May he rest in peace, and his legacy of caring live on in all of our lives. May God bless you all.

Patti, it just doesn't seem fair, but God has a plan. We lost Coach McGilvray too soon. He was such an amazing person. A great role model and mentor for so many young men. He literally changed lives and saved many of us from our own self destructive behavior. He really knew how to treat people and motivate young men like myself. Re-directing and changing the path of our life. Coach McGilvray and Coach Psaledas took a group of immature kids and made us winners back in 1991/92 and he did it again as the Head Coach. Thank you for teaching us how to be winners on the field and in life.

Dear Patti, Meaghan, and Molly,
I served on the NEA-NH Executive Board, coming on as Scott began his first term as our president. Though he clearly liked short meetings, he was always patient with questions, correct with procedure, and supportive of everyone's efforts to serve educators and children. Scott inspired me with his "put others first - but never ahead of family" example. I shall miss his smile, his laugh, his wisdom, and his kindness. A gentle-man and a first rate-leader. Heaven is richer today. God Bless you all.

My deep and sincere condolences to Scott's family and friends. I knew Scott when he was coaching at Memorial, while I student taught there when he was one of my supervising teachers. We lost touch when I moved out to Montana. We ran into each other at the store but never got together for lunch as we had planned. At this time, I regret this very much. Scott was a strong yet gentle man. His passion for people, especially for his students and players showed in his actions; especially his generosity. Anyone who knew him was fortunate. I will hold on to his memory fondly. Blessings to Patti, Molly and Meaghan.

March 23, 2017
Coach McGilvray was more than a mentor and a leader; to me, he was a father figure. His compassion as a person displayed far greater than the classroom and the field. He was a genuine man who looked out for his students in their most troublesome times. Coach had heard that my brother I were having a tough offseason in high school. Our parents had recently divorced and our first Christmas as a separated family was only days away. Without notice or expectation, Coach McGilvray dropped off two heavy plastic bags on our front porch. The only evidence he left was that of his black dodge truck pulling out of the snowy driveway and a Christmas card tucked in one of the bags that read Merry Christmas Eric & Todd, From Santa ClauseThe two bags were stuffed full of brand new Abercrombie and Fitch' shirts, pants, sweaters and winter jackets, a young high schooler's dreamThe next week, I walked up to him in the weight room and said thank you Santa and he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about with a slight smirkEven as an ungrateful youth it absolutely floored my brother and I at the compassion that this man showed us. To this day I tell the story of how my toughest Christmas was ultimately my best yet. Coach McGilvray never wanted a bit of gratitude, he only spoke with his actions. A coach, a teacher, a friend and a father figure, I learned a lot from this man and I will never forget him.

Scott was a great colleague and friend. I had the opportunity to work with him on many worthwhile endeavors over the years, starting when he was a local leader at MEA, then later after his election to President of NEA-New Hampshire and as a State Senator. Scott was always thoughtful and direct in meetings, and came to every issue table in the spirit of collaboration. I know he brought that same energy to many other important efforts as well.
A couple summers ago I returned to work after maternity leave. Scott was in one of the first professional meetings I had back, and my young daughter attended as well. I ended up sending him a personal thank you note not long after. I was still very new at balancing work and family, let alone having a baby with me when talking to colleagues. Scott took it all in stride, taking a minute to smile at the baby now and again but otherwise treating me and the meeting with the same professional courtesy he always had in the past. He probably hadn't thought twice about it, as I wrote in my note, but to a new mom it meant the world to me. That's the kind of class act and thoughtful person Scott was, and I will miss him. My love and prayers to his family and friends. Zandra
