Sheila Jones Obituary

- Sheila Margo (Carr) Jones died peacefully at Concord Hospital on December 30, 2018 with her family nearby. Sheila was born on October 29, 1946 in New Bedford, Massachusetts daughter of Rosangela (Bendock) Carr and CAPT Charles H. Carr (USN Ret.). Sheila was the younger sister of Kathleen (Carr) Lang and older sister of Anne (Carr) Louie. She grew up with her sisters aboard U.S. Navy stations all over the world.

Sheila graduated from J.E.B. Stuart High School in Fairfax, Virginia in 1965 and during the summer worked at the Peace Corps office in Washington DC for the first Director of the Peace Corps- Sergeant Shriver- brother in law of President John F. Kennedy.

Sheila enrolled in Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. At Wilkes College she met Palmer P. Jones and after graduation in 1969 they married and would be married for nearly 50 years.

Their first home together was in Plainfield, New Jersey. Sheila was an accountant and worked directly for David O'Conell Chairman and CEO of Avon Cosmetics in New York City.

They moved to Auburn, Maine in 1976. Her son, Palmer David Jones was born in 1977. Her daughter Kathleen Morgan (Jones) Law was born in 1980. In Maine, Sheila bred champion Labrador Retrievers- one puppy was the mother of the seeing eye dog who led their owner safely out of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The family moved to Concord, New Hampshire in September, 1985. She served on the Concord PTA and volunteered for the Friends of Concord Sailfish swim team. She was a devoted mother who ensured both children were well prepared to succeed.

In 1993 she re-entered the workforce as an accountant and cashier at the New Hampshire State Hospital in Concord. She was loved and respected by the patients and staff alike. She retired in 2008.

Sheila loved being a grandmother to Fiona Rose, Eloise Adams, Huckleberry Palmer and Axel Higgans Law. She also loved making jewelry, going to the beach at Wallis Sands State Park in Rye, New Hampshire, accounting, reading and shopping. She will be missed by her loving family. A memorial will be held in the spring/fall.

Dear Palmer, Kathleen and David, my husband and I remember Sheila so fondly. She helped out when we went to RI for the Saturnalia celebration, or to the Boston's MFA. She was so friendly, helpful, kind and dynamic, that we looked forward to seeing her every time. Memory eternal...

Palmer, David and Kathleen, we are so very sad to learn of Sheila's passing. I enjoyed getting to know her when we served on the Board for Swim Team. It was always a pleasure when we would run in to Palmer and Sheila around Concord in the years since. We were inspired by the joy with which she would speak of her children and later, of her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. I know you will keep her spirit alive in you and in her beautiful grandchildren. You and your family are in our prayers.
