Wayne LaPorte Obituary

Wayne Donald LaPorte, Sr.

Newbury, NH —

Wayne Donald LaPorte, Sr went to be with his Lord peacefully surrounded by family on Thurs, August 11, 2022 just shy of his 88th birthday. He fought a very valiant year long struggle to regain strength and health after breaking his neck.

Wayne was born to Reginald and Grace Preston LaPorte, in Graniteville, VT on Sept 6, 1934 the third of four children. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Richard, and by a sister, Eloise LaPorte and a half brother, Reginald Jr.. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Judith Sawyer LaPorte, his daughter, Teriko LaPorte MacConnell, and her significant other, Stergios Spanos; a son, Wayne Donald LaPorte, Jr. and his wife Kate Culverhouse, and three beloved grandchildren: Bryanna and Danielle

MacConnell, and Kainoa Culverhouse and by his sisters, Vivian Brown and half sister Margaret Rychesky,. He was an amazing Dad and Grampa. His family was everything to him.

Wayne was a Master Scuba Diver, a certified scuba diving instructor, a Master Electrician, a master plumber and a superb carpenter. He was a fireman for years and Fire Chief.

He was full of energy, had a wonderful impish sense of humor, was funny and lovable. Everyone who knew him loved him.

For 60 years they dove under the ice right before midnight on NY's Eve and came back up after midnight, seeing the New Year "IN" under the ice.

There will be a celebration of life at South Newbury Union Church on Monday, August 22 at 11:00. Refreshments will follow in the Friendship House.

Wayne was a good man. He taught Scott Staples (Staples Vets of Claremont) and me to dive when were 13 +14 years old, something we continued to do for many decades all over New England. Wayne, his kindness, and skills will be missed.

Wayne was a very happy man, it radiated in his eyes and his smile.
He helped us search for a go pro in the Lake once and his happy demeanor stuck with us.
Our condolences to all the family.

Judy, I know I'm a VERY old friend, but the LaPorte family and mine were good friends. My Dad, Ced Worthen, thought the world of Reg. I just found out now, Sept., about Wayne. And I miss New England and Lake Sunapee all the time. We two Yankees raised 6 Southern kids, so here we are in GA. Please accept our sincere condolances. Janie Worthen Chartrand
