Charles Plumbley Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Vernon Plumbley, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Born on May 11, 1944, in Savannah, Georgia, Charles peacefully departed this world on October 13, 2025, in the city he forever called home.

Charles was a proud resident of Garden City, GA, where he was known for his dedication and skills as a fleet mechanic. He honorably served as a Medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1965-1967-a testament to his courage and compassion. After his military service, Charles dedicated his professional life to the Georgia Ports Authority, from which he retired in 2006 after decades of commitment and hard work. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Charles had a passion for working on heavy fleet equipment, and he found joy in tinkering with lawn equipment in his spare time. His meticulous nature and hands-on skills were admired by all who knew him.

He is survived by Patsy Plumbley, his devoted wife, and siblings Donna Streett (Weldon), Susan Chassereau (Don), and Al Plumbley. Charles was a loving uncle to his niece, Ashley Brown (David), and Donovan Chassereau and Daniel Chassereau. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Vernon Plumbley Sr., and mother, Thelma Plumbley.

A Celebration of Charles's life will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Staubes officiating, followed by Military Honors at Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Charles are invited to attend and honor the memory of a man who lived a life full of warmth, service, and integrity.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker McCullough Funeral Home Garden City Chapel. Charles will be dearly missed but remembered for the legacy of love and resilience he left behind. May he rest in peace.
