Cheryl Allen, Obituary

Lt. Colonel Cheryl Allen passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.

Cheryl was born on April 1, 1955, in Landstuhl, Germany, and was raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Central Dauphin High School in 1973 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Penn State University, completing her undergraduate clinical training at The Hershey Medical Center. She later obtained a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of Alabama and a Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from the University of Texas.

Cheryl had a strong desire to serve her country, so she joined the United States Air Force, dedicating 20 years ofher life to military service, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Her military career was her greatest passion, and she served heroically in Operation Desert Storm. After returning home, she would often joke, "I learned to hate sand in Saudi Arabia."

After retiring, Cheryl moved to Savannah to be closer to family and accepted a position as a Nurse Practitioner in a physician's private practice. However, she missed military life and eventually returned to a medical unit at Hunter Air Base, from which she also retired. Cheryl was a longtime member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in Savannah.

Cheryl is predeceased by her stepfather, Leonard DeCamara; her father, Clinton Allen; and a sister, Su "Van" Robbins.

Cheryl is survived by her mother, Arla DaCamara; her stepbrother, Randy DaCamara; and her half-sister, Peg Brisbon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a military organization of your choice.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Skidaway Island Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Hale Bishop and Rev. Ben Martin. Inurnment with U.S. Air Force Honors will follow in the church garden.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the excellent doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital Neuro ICU for the care they provided to Cheryl during her time there.

My condolences to Cheryl's family. I met Cheryl in the 80's at Scott AFB, IL. And then we reconnected when she helped organize our SE Regional meeting of the Society of AF Nurses. Cheryl was a fun person, good friend, and a great nurse.

On behalf of the Society of Air Force Nurses, please know we are mourning with you the death of our sister nurse, Lt Col Cheryl Allen, Retired. It takes a patriot, willing to give of themselves to other human beings in their time of need, to step forth and join the ranks of our U. S. Air Force Nurse Corps. Your beloved one will be mourned and missed by many who served alongside her. We will include her name in our Memorial Program of the Society of Air Force Nurses in commemoration of her life and service to our nation.
With Sincerest Regards and Gratitude,
Wendy S. Collins, Lt Col, USAF, Nurse Corps (Retired)
