Dorothy "Dot" Coover Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Coover, born on November 12, 1928, in Sumter, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia, at the age of 97. She spent nearly her entire life in Savannah, having moved there as an infant.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Warren Coover, with whom she shared 69 wonderful years of marriage. A devoted mother, she is survived by her loving daughters, Cherilyn Franklin (Wayne) and Donna Swanson (Dick). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Thomas W. Hurst (Katlyn) and Amy Diggs (Matthew), as well as her two great-grandchildren, Lawton and Callie, and her sweet great-great-granddaughter, Taylin.

A graduate of Commercial High School, Dot furthered her education at Draughon's Business School. She embarked on a long and fulfilling career at Amoco, retiring after 41 years of dedicated service.

She enjoyed music, playing the piano and singing in the choir, and had a love for travel. While raising her family, she was deeply involved with the church's children and youth programs, serving as a choir mother, chaperoning trips, and offering steady support. She attended Bull Street Baptist Church from the age of six months.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, John Erastus Madden and Alyne Madden; her beloved spouse, Thomas Warren Coover; her daughter, Debra Ann Coover; her brother, John Everett Madden; her sister, Margaret "Sissie" Madden; and her niece, Patricia "Patty" Chambers.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation to be held at Baker McCullough Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel in Savannah, Georgia, on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service celebrating Dot's remarkable life will follow at 11:00 am at the same location. Interment will take place afterward at Greenwich Cemetery.
