Edward Ueberall Obituary
Mr. Edward B. Ueberall, 78, of Pooler, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at his home.
Ed was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent his youth on Long Island in the town of Hempstead. After earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he lived in Rochester for a few years before moving to Binghamton while working with International Paper. He married the love of his life, Lynda in 1970, and together they raised three children. Ed and Lynda moved to Pooler in 2003.
Ed was always fond of what he referred to as "fine machinery." Early in life this manifested in his love of cars, particularly Jaguars and Corvettes. In his 30s he began collecting antique, railroad grade pocket watches. In order to support this habit without spending "family money" he taught himself how to repair and restore them himself. He offered his services to friends he met through the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC) as well as the American Watch and Clock Collectors Association, both of which he was a lifetime member of.
After retirement, Ed took his watch repair career full time, launching his company, The Escapement, to a larger audience. His customers came from all corners of the globe, and he was regarded as one of the world's foremost experts in regards to these fine timepieces. He co-wrote a bi-monthly article series called the "Railroaders Corner" which educated a generation of collectors. For his contributions, Ed was bestowed many awards, most notably being named a NAWCC Silver Star Fellow, the highest honor a member can receive.
In 2009 he bought his prized Corvette and soon after joined the Coastal Corvette Association. This group of friends and car aficionados became some of his closest friends in GA, and he loved going on regular cruises with the group. Ed also loved watching Jeopardy!, rarely missing an episode in the last 40 years. Mostly, he loved visits from his kids and grandkids, often commenting on how much everyone being together made him happy.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Ueberall, and his parents, Herbert and Elizabeth (Miller) Ueberall. Survivors include his wife, Lynda Ueberall; son, Steven Ueberall (Colleen); daughter, Amanda Dean (Bill); daughter-in-law, Michelle Ueberall; grandchildren, Sean, Alexis, Damion, Arden, Phinneaus, and Fletcher; and great-granddaughter Alannah.
A memorial service to honor Ed's life will be held at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Homes – WEST CHATHAM CHAPEL – 901 West Highway 80 – Pooler, Georgia on Saturday, Feb 1, at 1 p.m. with visitation from 12 noon until the time of the service. A reception will follow.
