Maryellen FitzGerald Obituary

Maryellen Ormiston FitzGerald of Savannah, Georgia passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025 surrounded by her family. Born December 11, 1942 to Mary (Juby) Ormiston and Lawrence Robert Ormiston, she grew up in Watertown, New York and graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy. She met and married the love of her life, John Patrick FitzGerald, Jr., on December 29, 1962, at St. Patrick's Church in Watertown, NY.

Her life was defined by her deep love and devotion to her family, and she believed her greatest achievement was raising her three children with a deep Catholic faith. Maryellen and her husband, John, moved to Savannah, GA in 2003 from the Washington DC area. While living in Savannah, she developed many special and lasting friendships. Maryellen was a loyal and faithful friend and took great joy in the relationships that she cherished.

Maryellen's greatest gift was her creativity, especially seen in her abundant needlepoint artwork, her famous wedding bandanas, and in the many wonderful baptismal gowns that she crafted, with every stitch filled with love.

Maryellen is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, John; her children, John Patrick FitzGerald III (Joanne), Helen Margaret (Peggy) Wood (Bill), and Robert Lawrence FitzGerald (Shannon); and her beloved grandchildren, Jack FitzGerald (Shelby), Grace Akridge (Harrison), Whit FitzGerald, Patrick Wood, Maggie Morgan (Patrick), Ben FitzGerald (Michelle), and Jake FitzGerald; and her siblings, Catherine (Kate) Bolden, Alice Best, and John Ormiston; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by both of her parents and her brothers, Joseph Ormiston and James Ormiston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1707 Bull Street, Savannah GA.
