Robert "Bob" Sharp Obituary

Robert (Bob) J. Sharp, 75, passed away on June 21, 2025, in Savannah, GA. Bob was born in Waterloo, Iowa, to the late Donald and Beatrice Sharp. Following his graduation from Columbus High School, he went on to graduate with a B.A. Business/Finance from the University of Northern Iowa. After college he started his 45+ year career in the property and casualty insurance industry. He started as a claim adjuster for Shelter Insurance in the Midwest, promoted to Vice President of Claims and Senior Vice President of Claims before finally taking his role as President and CEO for Workmen's Insurance. Bob was a strong mentor to countless numbers of claims adjusters, whom he often referred to as his children because he cared so much about their continued success. At the end of his corporate career, he started his own expert witness company. This allowed him the ability to still use his expertise yet have more time for family and friends.

He loved the outdoors; whether fishing, boating, or golfing. Spending time with family was important to Bob. He was extremely proud of his daughter and grandchildren, as they brought great joy to his life.

Bob met his wife, Vivian, 40 years ago, when they both were attending an insurance industry convention. Their friendship bond quickly developed and after they were married in 1988, they began a life of supporting each other to build their careers and enjoying those precious moments they could spend together traveling, visiting family and friends while building a forever bond!

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Michelle (Mickie); his brother, Jim; and his brother Tom.

He is survived by his wife Vivian; his daughter Jodie (Matthew); and his three grandchildren, Adelyn, Mick and Emma. He is also survived by his siblings, Bill Sharp (Maureen); Gary Sharp (Lisa); and his sister Cindy Jensen (Chris), sister-in-law Mary, along with 11 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for July 22, 2025 at The Landings, Palmetto Club From 4:00pm till 6:00pm.

It´s is difficult for me to find the words to pay proper tribute. Bob changed my life.

He took me under his wing when I was young and rough around the edges, and he taught me how to carry myself as a leader. He was both a mentor and a friend. I often reflect on that chapter of my life that Bob played such a big role in. He gave me confidence in myself and taught me so much-about insurance, about professionalism, and about how to carry yourself with class.

I wish I´d had the chance to tell him one more time what he meant to me-maybe over a glass of wine (Bob was the one who first introduced me to wine) or a Brandy nightcap. I was a "beer in a bottle" guy back then, but around Bob, I felt sophisticated.

My heart goes out to Vivian, Jodie, and everyone else whose life Bob touched. He was truly special, and I´ll be forever grateful for him.
