John Chris "Red" Henderson

J. Chris "Red" Henderson, 64, of Corning, CA, passed away on November 3, 2022, with his family by his side after a 5 month battle with cancer. Chris was born on May 14, 1958 in Northridge, CA, the youngest child of Homer and Barbara Henderson.

Chris' family moved to Corning in 1967, to run Hansen Pump, the family business. He loved the outdoors and soon learned to hunt and fish with his new friends in Corning, which would become a lifelong passion.

In 1983, Chris married Rosalie (Holland) his love of 44 years. Chris and Rosalie welcomed a son, Brett (1987) and a daughter, Lindsey (1990), making their family complete. In their spare time as their children grew they enjoyed coaching and attending all kinds of sports in Corning.

Chris worked as General Manager of Genoa Farms for over 30 years, developing the land west of Corning into a premier olive and almond operation. In his profession he was known as an intelligent, honest, hardworking man who was always willing to mentor and advise those who asked. Chris was also a partner in A&C Farms, another successful Corning olive and almond farm.

He served as President of the Corning Water District for many years, and in 2006, helped pass an ordinance that continues to protect Tehama County groundwater from being sold to outside profiteers. He also served on the California Olive Commission negotiating team and was President of the Olive Fruit Fly District.

One of Chris' proudest accomplishments was helping his children earn a college education and become productive citizens. Chris and Rosalie travelled extensively with their children and friends including trips to Japan, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, Hawaii, and Germany. Their favorite time together was any time together. Otherwise, Chris could usually be found game hunting, especially for deer, ducks, and doves. Over the years he taught his wife, son, daughter, nephews, and many beloved Labrador retrievers the art of his passion.

Chris is survived by his mother, Barbara Henderson, Redding; sister, Evelyn Henderson, Phoenix, OR; brother, Paul (Darcy) Henderson, Elk Grove; son, Brett (Ann) Henderson, Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Lindsey Henderson, Los Angeles, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Kathy Jaeger. His light will never cease to shine in his family's lives.
