Mary Glisson Obituary
Mary Kathryn (Kay) Glisson
STOW: Mary Kathryn (Kay) Glisson went home to be with the Lord on March 30, 2013, three days after her 98th birthday.
She was born March 27, 1915 in Coshocton County to Charles and Mary Carnahan. Mary and Lonnie F Glisson were married October 14, 1942.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years, her son Lonnie II, and two sisters, Anna and Frances.
Surviving family include son and daughter-in-law, Charles (Heather) of Tallmadge; grandchildren, William M, Scott and Kelly; great grandson, Jeffery; nieces and nephews; and also special friends, Mary Tokar and Christy Lautzenheiser.
Mary was a member of Arlington Memorial Baptist Church for many years and later attended South Arlington United Methodist Church. During World War II, she volunteered with the American Red Cross while her husband was serving in the Army. She volunteered many years with the physically handicapped children, eventually obtaining a full-time position in the Akron Public Schools from which she retired in 1979. She also sang with the Glover Mother Singers. Mary served as the Cub Scout den mother for Den 92 in the late 1950's. She served as President of the Goodrich PTA in the early 1960's, and was a life member of the Ohio PTA. Later, she volunteered with the senior citizen group at the South Arlington United Methodist Church, the East Akron Community House, and was a charter member of the Ellet Golden Keenagers.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Stow-Glen Retirement Village, Dr. James Bailey and the South Arlington United Methodist Women's Group.
Friends may call on Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8pm and on Thursday from 9-10am at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home, 3333 Kent Rd. at Rt. 91 in Stow where the funeral service will be held at 10am. Graveside services will be 2pm Thursday in Canal Lewisville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the South Arlington United Methodist Women's Group, 790 South Arlington St, Akron, OH 443060.
