Anthony Goodney Obituary

Anthony Lee Goodney retired from this life into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Anthony was born January 26, 1949, to Kie Goodney and Dorothy Connor Goodney. He was preceded in death by his father; Kie Goodney, mother; Dorothy Goodney, son; Clay Goodney and great grandson; Clyde Smith. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debra Goodney; sisters Dorthia Hefner, Kathleen Goodney (Donald Brown) and Kristine Christensen, Children: Keely Parrish, Josette Trantham (Ray), Jake Fry (Cassie) and Dane Fry (Miranda); Grandchildren: Garret, Alaysia (Casey), Em, Taryn, Kinley, Gage, Karsen, Harley, Tayler, Jackson, Morgan, Evelyn, Londyn, Brintlee, Olivia, Paris Lynn and Oliver. Great Grandsons: Mathew and Andy, niece: Kaylee Harlan (Brandon), nephew: Kristopher Cox (Taylor).

Anthony graduated from Willis High school in 1967. He served in the Army National Guard while attending Sam Houston State University. Anthony worked for the United States Postal Service for 17 years, ultimately retiring as Postmaster of Riverside, Tx. After retirement, car salesman became his new title and allowed him to meet hundreds of new friends. He worked for Gullo Ford-Conroe, Hilcrest Ford Huntsville, Bill Fick Ford- Huntsville, Henson Ford- Madisonville and Wiesner Chevrolet- Huntsville.

Anthony had a servant's heart and lived to serve his community in a multitude of ways. Anthony proudly began serving in the North Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department in 1965, he held position as Fire Chief for the majority of his career until his retirement from the department in 1989. His legacy remains there in the hearts of those who bravely served along with him, as well as the iconic blue fire engines he established, that the department is still recognized for today.

In addition to career paths that served the community, also enjoyed doing the same in his free time.

Anthony was a little league coach for many years, involved in City council, and as Mayor pro temp. He was deeply devoted to his church community and serving the Lord. He and his wife Debbie have been an integral part of the Grace Church family in Willis since its beginning in 1984.

In his spare time Anthony loved gardening, spending time with family, and taking long Sunday drives. Anthony loved to pick on those he cared for. If he knew you well, you were likely given an annoying nickname or were offered a knuckle sandwich from time to time. He loved people and had a magnetic personality. Anthony had a heart of gold, never met a stranger and will forever be missed on this Earth. 2Corinthians 5:8 says, "we prefer to be absent in the body and to be at home with the Lord". Anthony is at home with Jesus; healed and whole.

A come and go memorial service will be held Monday, June 6, 2022, 1:30 pm-3:30 pm. North Montgomery County Community Center, 600 Gerald St. Willis, Tx 77378. A private graveside service will be held at an alternate time for immediate family.
