Arthur J. "Big Art" Nebgen

Arthur J. "Big Art" Nebgen, Jr. died August 20, 2011 in Austin, TX after a brave 14-month struggle with metastasized prostate/bladder cancer.

He was born on August 25, 1929 in St. Paul, MN to Arthur J. Nebgen, Sr. and Hazel A. Nebgen. When Art was 13 years old, he moved with his parents to Beaumont, TX where he attended Junior High, graduated from High School and attended one year of College. He then transferred to the University of Houston where he earned his degree in Pharmacy. He did his internship at Walgreen's and was offered a job but Uncle Sam made him an offer he could not refuse. When he was honorably discharged from the Army, Walgreen's offer was still good and he worked for the company 35 years, all in the Houston area, retiring at the Huntsville store. He spent his retirement years playing golf and motorhoming until bad health forced him to give both up.

After the death of his wife in 2004, he married a long time motorhoming friend, Glenda Akin of Austin, in 2005. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, June. He is survived by his wife, Glenda; his very best friend of his entire life, Jerry Dueitt and his family; his stepdaughter, Linda Biasetti and her husband, Bruce; and his stepson, Paul Hutchinson.

So many of our friends in Austin did everything possible to make this difficult journey easier for us. It would be impossible to name each of you; however, there are a few who must be mentioned. Art was so grateful for the love shown to him by Pastor Knippa, Pastor Lentz and Jim McHan of Bethany Lutheran Church. Their countless visits and prayers with him meant so very much to him. Dr. Peter Ruff and Nurse Mena were so compassionate and caring and always worked us in when we had unexpected problems, and there were many of them. Jennifer Joseph was truly our miracle with her tireless work to help in every way she could to keep him comfortable (he called her his Wheel Chair Chauffeur). James Woodmansee and Sonny Meurin visited him often and sat with him at the hospital, at rehab and at home. They were just there to do whatever needed to be done. A very special thank you to each of you and the many others not mentioned.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, August 24 at 11:00 AM at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont, TX.
