Claire Mahaffey Obituary

Claire Nigro Mahaffey was born October 15, 1929 in Dallas, Texas, a daughter of Nicholas and Mary Nigro(Nee Dorsa). She grew up with her sister Patricia in Fort Worth and Wichita Falls; graduated from North Dallas High school and attended Southern Methodist University. Claire flew on Braniff International Airways as a flight attendant until marrying Max Mahaffey in 1958. They were married 63 years until he pre-deceased her in 2021; they had three children, Scott in 1959, Jan in 1960 and Jill in 1965. She moved with her husband and family to Dearborn Heights, Michigan in 1964, then to Conroe in 1970 where she lived until 2024. She became active in the Montgomery County Historical Society, the Eta Theta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, the Clipped B's chapter of the ex-flight attendant organization Clipped Wings,the Texas Daughters of the American Revolution ,the Junior League of Conroe and first United Methodist Church of Conroe. She was a passionate supporter of her children, and accomplished genealogist, a lover of get-togethers with her friends all the way into her 90s. She passed away after some health setbacks at the age of 95 on March 23, 2025, loved by her daughter, Jan Mahaffey Archibald of Austin and Jan's husband Tom Archibald, her son Scott Mahaffey and his partner Jorge Lizzeralde of New York, New York, many family members in Austin, Dallas, Virginia, and California and generations of friends in Conroe. Her parents, her sister, Patricia Nigro Schumman and her daughter Jill Allison Mahaffey predeceased her. A Memorial ceremony will be held for Claire at first Methodist Church in Conroe on Wednesday, October 15 which would been her 96th birthday. The service will be held in the chapel from 10 to 11 AM with snacks and fellowship afterwards in the foyer. We will remember her for her enjoyment of life, her commitment to our family, history, and for the energy, compassion and love she shared with us her entire life. in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Coushatta Trace chapter of DAR.
