Daniel Schiel Obituary

Daniel Albert Schiel, Jr. was born July 19, 1946 to Dan and Hazel Schiel. He went to be with his Lord on August 13, 2022. He grew up with his siblings in Decker Prairie on the Schiel place, loving the freedom of roaming the woods and enjoying God's creation. He graduated from Tomball High School in 1964.

Dan preached his first sermon in 1967, attended Midwest Bible Institute in Missouri, and then began 52-years of serving as pastor of several churches starting with Osborn, MO; then Decker's Chapel in Tomball for five years. In 1977, he founded The People's Church on Waco Street in Conroe. Within a year, property was purchased on League Line Road and the church relocated. It was renamed The Worship Center in 1979. After five years, Dan left there to serve in other locations, including nine years in Midland, TX. He resigned to move to the Washington State/Canadian border to study at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C. for over two years. Dan then responded to a call to return to The Worship Center (which became Christ Church on League Line) in 1997 where he served another 22 years; retiring due to the onset of dementia.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Grace Ellen; children: sons: Kent and wife, Kathy Morris of Conroe, TX; Craig and wife, Rena Morris of Lovelady, TX, daughter Melanie and husband, Raymond Carlson of Montgomery, TX ; son, Danny Schiel of Archdale, NC; daughter Melissa and husband, Todd Freese of Midland, TX, and son Darrel and wife, Shari Schiel of Rosharon, TX; 24 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 10:30 at Christ Church, 10087 League Line Road with a potluck meal following. Pastor Darrel Schiel of Sovereign Grace Church in Pearland will officiate assisted by Christ Church Pastor Bart Lipscomb.

I am so sorry to hear about Pastor Dan´s passing. I rejoice with him. Brother Dan helped me begin my ministry 42 years ago, and in the depth of my soul I always considered him to be my pastor. I wish my condolences to Miss Grace and the family.

Pastor Dan was our Pastor in Midland. My daughters were taught there. He married my husband Steve and I over 30 years ago. We have spoken in our home often about Dan and Grace, always with love and the most pleasant memories.

I enjoyed my visits with Dan when I was in the area as a fellow graduate of Regent College, a fellow pastor in Washington state, and as a representative of the US foundation of the school. Dan always received me graciously and we enjoyed sharing memories of Regent. I also remember that his wife, Grace Ellen, painted an original art piece for each Sunday's service for Dan's sermon. This was an impressive act of love and respect for his good service to the Lord. I didn't know until now that his youngest son, Darrel, also became a pastor. This is another example of great honor and respect for Dan from his family. May the Lord watch over and bless his family and the people Dan touched in ministry over many decades in his service to Jesus our Lord.

Dan was my upper class man by one year in Tomball High School. We both were FFA members and raised commercial steers to show at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I had a pen of 3 steers. Dan was the only Tomball FFA student with a pen of 10 Steers. After graduation from THS, Dan became a preacher and I became a veterinarian. In 1971 my wife Gloria and I opened Tomball Animal Hospital. Dan was the new pastor at Decker´s Chapel and he came to visit us. He became my volunteer assistant surgeon. We had many nice conversations over my surgery table. It was not long before we became members of Decker´s Chapel. I cherish those good old days. Dan will be greatly missed. Tony Foltin
