Hulon Madeley Obituary

Dr. Hulon Matthews Madeley, age 89 passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Hulon was born on December 19, 1934 in Montgomery, Texas to S.K. and Bessie Madeley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, S.K. and Bessie Madeley; an infant brother; his first wife and mother of his children, Mary D. Madeley; and his second wife, Marion L. Madeley.

Hulon is survived by his brother, Ivan G. Madeley of Conroe Texas; son, Steve Madeley (Angie) of Piedmont, Ala.; daughters, Cindy Wells (Gary) of Conroe, Texas and Lynn Higgins (Dan) of Tomball, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew Volk, Chloe Waits, Emily Higgins, Savannah Higgins, Harrison Higgins, Courtney Bowers, Christina McGinnis, and Taylor Madeley; and great-grandchildren, Evie Bowers, Ellie Bowers, Addie McGinnis, and Riley McGinnis.

Hulon graduated from Conroe High School. He then went on to further his education and graduated from Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering. He obtained his Master of Science degree in Geology from the University of Oklahoma, and his Ph.D. in Geology from Ohio State University.

He served in the U.S. Army as an Officer, Chemical Corp, Fort McClellan, AL; Tallapoosa GA High School Science Teacher; Sinclair Oil Company, Midland, Texas, Petroleum Geologist; West Georgia College (now the University of West Georgia), Carrollton, Ga., Assistant Professor of Geology; Emanuel County Junior College (now East Georgia State College), Swainsboro, Ga., Professor of Geology, Chairman of Science and Math Division; North Harris Community College (now Lone Star College), Houston, Texas and Tomball, Texas, Professor of Geology, Administrator.

Before beginning his career in college teaching, he was a military officer, high school teacher, and oilfield geologist. His true calling was the classroom and he spent 36 years at the college level before retiring in 2000. He led many field trips through Georgia and Texas over his career as well as the Midwest and western United States. He touched the lives of many former students and colleagues.

He served as President of the Swainsboro, Ga., Kiwanis Club and as Lt. Governor of the Georgia District. After returning home to Texas he again served as President of the North Houston Kiwanis Club. Later he served as President of the Magnolia, Texas Lions Club when he joined the Tomball campus of Lone Star College.

During retirement he traveled throughout the United States raised cattle on his ranch and continued his church and volunteer work.

He was saved at an early age and spent his life committed to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He served 65 years as a Sunday School teacher, Baptist Deacon, Bible Study leader and occasionally filled the pulpit. He authored three books discussing the Bible, geology, and how it all fits together. He had a positive impact on many people throughout his life.

A visitation for Dr. Hulon M. Madeley will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 5:00 p.m., to 8:00 p.m., at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 East White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304. A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., at Metcalf Funeral Directors.

Hulon will be laid to rest in Copeland Chapel Cemetery, Copeland Chapel Road, Montgomery, Texas 77316.
