Joseph Slaughter Wilwerding

Joseph Slaughter Wilwerding (Joe), 91, passed away peacefully with family close by on Saturday, December 10, 2022, in Lakeway, Tx. He and his wife Donna have lived in Lakeway for the past five years. Joe was born Feb 4, 1931, in Seattle, Washington to Joseph Michael Wilwerding and Helen Slaughter Wilwerding. Joe was deeply devoted to his family and is survived by his wife Donna of 70 years and their five children: Karin (Paul) Szatkowski of Plano, Tx; Kristine (Gary) Lambert of Round Rock, Tx; Kolleen (Don) Blanton of Austin, Tx; Joseph (Darla) Wilwerding of Round Rock, Tx; Geoffrey (Lori) Wilwerding of Seattle, WA; 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and sisters Marilyn, Joanie, and Sally.

Joe attended St. Joseph Catholic Middle School, Seattle Preparatory School (49') and graduated from Seattle University (52') with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He served nine years with the Washington National Guard and retired from Shell Oil Co. after 30 years in Products Finance. His career spanned the US, South America, Europe, and the Middle East during Shell Oil's global growth years of the '60s and '70s. Joe frequently traveled to Royal Dutch Shell's Anglo-American headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands. He consulted to the Oil and Gas industry for ten more years after his career with Shell Oil. He was an avid hunter and fisherman growing up fly fishing for steelhead salmon on the Skagit River north of Seattle. He enjoyed tennis and golf and spending family summer vacations at South Padre Island, Tx. Joe's endless energy, work ethic, and zest for life were a pillar of strength for Donna and their children. It inspires his family to this day. Joe and Donna were long-time residents of Conroe, Tx where they attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and were active volunteers with Birthright of Conroe.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Joe's hospice nurses Destiny and Vicki, who along with Joe's wife Donna never left his side. A special thank you also to Fr. John Szatkowski who shared sacraments with Joe. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Emmaus Catholic Church 1718 Lohmans Crossing Road Lakeway, Tx 78734. Recitation of Rosary at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to any Birthright Organization at https://birthright.org. Arrangements for Joe have been entrusted to Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Directors of Lakeway, Tx.

So sorry to learn of the loss of Joe. We have known you guys since 1966 through Toastmistress in New Orleans and your friendship has been a treasure ever since. We will keep you and all your family in our hearts and prayers. God bless you always!

Donna and Family... I don't have words to describe what Joe has meant to me, and my parents. I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man. I will always treasure the beautiful memories my dad shared, and I gained growing up with him in my life.

Donna and family ,May the peace of God surround youall as you grieve over Joe. Praying for God´s comfort. He did have a life well lived. Such a true man of faith. Example to us all. I will always be proud that I knew him from church and Birthright. So very sorry and sad for you Donna and family. Knowing he is with the Lord gives peace and comfort. He will be missed so much.
