Richard Maurice Abbey (Ricky), long-time owner of Rick's Auto Shop went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 9, 2014, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born November 2, 1955 and at his death he was surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold T. Abbey and his brother John. He is survived by his son Derrick and girl-friend Priscilla, mothers Geneva Abbey Cooney and Josette Bentley, brothers, James and wife Karen, Andre and wife Katie, Jerry and wife Danette, sister-in-law Pat Abbey and step-father Bill Cooney, dear friends Joyce and Steve Kelley, plus numerous other relatives and friends. To know Ricky was to love him. He was always smiling and joking. His faith in Jesus Christ was inspiring and he was prepared to go. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church, New Waverly, on Saturday, July 19th at 11:00AM, with family visitation beforehand at 10:00AM. Dr. J.D. Andrews will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to First Baptisit Church Food Bank Building Fund; 460 Fisher St.; New Waverly, Texas, 77358.

I remember when I would get my report cards or my perfect attendance trophies I would get so excited to go see Rick. I have SO many of his collectible Nascars that I absolutely cherish, even his number 3 car. I am absolutely blessed to have been loved by such an amazing man.

I was shocked to hear of your loss. My heart was broken when I was told that Rick had passed away. I hadn't heard. Knowing now that I had to tell my granddaughter of this, well….. I can't begin to tell you how much Victoria loved that man. She already cherished every NASCAR he gave her. The hurt of losing such a man brought her to her knees. He will be missed so much. It's hard to understand why those we love are taken from us. When your heart is empty, filling it with happy memories can help you through the dark hours and remembering that God is with you and he is with our Father.
Our deepest sympathy to his family.

We will miss his beautiful smile and his caring love. He enjoyed his NASCAR. He and Uncle Phil spent many fun days on the golf course. God has a very special Angel with him now. Love you Rick.
