Timothy Mark Tauer passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, with his daughters by his side, after a brief battle with brain cancer. We take great comfort in knowing he is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Pauline, whom he deeply missed after her passing in May, as well as his brother Michael and his youngest sister Kimberly.
Born in Bismarck, North Dakota, Tim was the son of Otto and Doreen Tauer. Growing up in a military family, he lived in many places-most memorably Japan-which sparked his lifelong sense of adventure and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He climbed Mount Fuji multiple times and worked summers in Alaska doing land surveying, where he survived several close encounters with wildlife.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of North Dakota, Tim planned to join the Air Force, but medical issues redirected him into a successful business career. He worked in Denver, Chicago, and eventually Houston, where he met and married the love of his life, Pauline, in 1972. Together they raised two daughters, Heather and Courtney, and shared many adventures during Tim's career, which took the family to both Brazil and Mexico.
Tim was a gifted leader whose analytical mind and deep respect for people made him an exceptional executive in turnaround management. After retiring from corporate life, he and Pauline settled in Bentwater, where Tim enjoyed golf, community life, and the many friendships that became an extension of his family.
In 2003, Tim founded Education Resource Group (ERG), a company dedicated to helping school districts improve operational performance. His work reflected his firm belief that education is foundational to both opportunity and democracy. He proudly passed the company to his daughters and partners in 2022 so he could devote himself to caring for Pauline during her illness.
Tim is survived by his daughters, Heather Reid and Courtney Tauer; his siblings Brad (Joan), Cheri (John), and Michelle (Greg); and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Tim is predeceased by his older brother, Michael Tauer and youngest sister, Kimberly Walker.
A celebration of life will be held on December 9 at 5:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home (Conroe), followed by a rosary at 6:30 p.m. Tim requested casual attire in bright colors. A funeral Mass will take place on December 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church (Plantersville), followed by a reception.
