Lee Tauer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Weber-Hill & Packard Funeral Home - Crandon on Feb. 16, 2026.
Lee "Chopper" Andrew Tauer of Three Lakes, formerly of Hiles, passed away with his family by his side while under the care of Compassus Hospice on February 14, 2026. He was 56 years old.

Lee was born on January 27, 1970, in Rhinelander, to William and Grace (Erickson) Tauer. He worked as an automotive painter for over 30 years, dedicating his career to Borels Auto Body and Langlade Ford in Antigo.

A longtime volunteer firefighter, Lee later made a career move to serve full-time with the Three Lakes Fire Department, a role he was proud to fulfill. He was a fiercely independent man who found peace and purpose outdoors. Lee enjoyed ATV riding, hunting, and spending time in the woods. A third-generation maple syrup producer in the Tauer family, he carried on a cherished family tradition with his brother, Anton. Though he rarely spoke of it, Lee also had a deep passion for outdoor photography and loved capturing nature through his lens. He was happiest surrounded by the sounds of the forest, cutting and stacking firewood, or simply being out in nature.

Lee is survived by his father, William Tauer; his brother, Anton Tauer; nephews, Bryce & Brett Tauer; niece, Brielle Reas (Tauer) and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Tauer; his grandparents, Al and Erma Tauer and Dwight and Marion Erickson; and his uncle, Karl (Nancy) Tauer.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Weber-Hill & Packard Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Lee will be laid to rest at the Town of Hiles Cemetery.
