Bertha Mae Monfee, age 90, of Russellville, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2021.
She was born June 21, 1931, in Pine Bluff, daughter of Cecil R. Moseley and Freddie Mae Norton Moseley.
Mrs. Monfee was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. She attended Ouachita State University, where she obtained a degree in education and taught elementary school.
She met the love of her life, Andrew Monfee Jr., upon returning from church to find him negotiating the purchase of veterinary equipment from her grandmother. On their first date, he proclaimed she would be the one he would marry, to which she laughed. They were happily married for 61 years. After they married, she paused her teaching to take care of her children and to assist in her husband's veterinary practice. After her youngest was in school, she returned to substitute teaching to fulfill her love of working with children.
Anyone who knew Bertha, knew her love for Christ. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff throughout her life and taught GA's (Girls in Action) amongst other Bible studies. She was a person who truly lived by the philosophy of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". Her love of Christ, hymns and sweet disposition will all be a legacy she leaves with all who ever knew her.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Andrew Mason Monfee Jr.; and brother, Cecil Robert Moseley.
Survivors include her children, Dr. Andrew Mason Monfee, III (Cheryl), Anne Price and Dr. Michelle Monfee Ransom (Tim Bynum); grandchildren, Michael Monfee, Laura Shingleur, Merideth Birginske, Justin Slaughter, Megan Gaskins, Dr. Karen Ricker, Sarah Ellis, Mack Price, Andrew Ransom, Wilson Ransom and Merit Bynum; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Bellwood Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 6501 South Hazel Street, Pine Bluff, AR 71603.
