Bill M Davis, age 81, longtime resident of Plainview, passed away peacefully at Journey Care in Barrington, Ill., on Friday, May 6, 2022.
Bill proudly served as a Flight Engineer on C-130 airplanes as Master Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps for 30 years. He traveled all over the world; he was stationed in Alaska as well as Okinawa, Japan.
At the time of his retirement, he was stationed at MCAS El Toro in Irvine, Calif., with squadron VMGR 325. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and he spent many adventures in the Nevada dessert on metal detecting expeditions, building model airplanes (and crashing them too).
Some of his pastimes included working under the hood of a car or fixing anything that was broken, lending a hand in some of the Plainview town restorations. Bill was also an avid Ford Mustang lover. He enjoyed doing research for his family tree and sharing the information at the Davis Family Reunions.
Bill is survived by a step-daughter and Caregiver, Michelle "Missy" Russo; and granddaughter, Jenna Russo; Bill is also survived by a son, Greg "Buddy" Davis and daughter-in-law Cindy Davis; as well as grandsons, Benjamin and Nicholas; brother, James (Myra) Davis; niece, Sheryl (Tom) Atoigue; and children, Jessica Kountz (Connor, Sterling and Cooper) and Josh Kountz; nephew, John (Mona) Davis; niece, Shelley Boyer (children, Tiffany (Glen, Max and Ava) Jones, Nathan (Stacy) Schoenle; nephew, Ron Dalton; and many loving cousins (Davis Family), as well as a dear friend to Robert (Kaye) Merywether.

I'll always be greatful for the gun safety Uncle Bill taught me when I was young, and letting me shoot his pistol was a thrill for a kid like me. Thank you Uncle Bill, rest in peace.

There is so much I can say for Mr Bill. I was in mail carrier in Plainview and I also like to think I was his friend. He was good to me and my family. He was a wonderful man. He and I loved talking about Mustangs together and his truck! He will be missed by so many.
Sending thoughts and prayers to his family, loved ones, and friends.
