Joseph (Joe Pete) Lenton Hurdle, Jr., of Russellville, passed peacefully at home on August 4, 2025. Joe was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to India Marie Simons Hurdle and Joseph Lenton Hurdle, Sr.
While in the US Air Force as a meteorologist stationed in Ft. Smith, he met his wife Nancy Brooks (deceased). He is survived by their three Children, daughter Tammy and her husband Scott Wallman of San Angelo, TX, daughter Kimberly and her husband Dale Luningham of Maumelle, AR and son Joe and his wife Tracy Hurdle of Sherwood, AR; grandson JB Luningham, his wife Jennifer and their son Cameron of Little Rock, AR; grandson Steven Wallman of San Angelo, TX; granddaughter Kimberly Kennedy of Springfield, VA and her husband James and their son Thomas; grandson Alexander Hurdle of Sherwood, AR; sister in laws Kathleen Hurdle, Anna Brooks and Johanna Brooks and his dear friend and caregiver Jean Laymon and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four dogs and two cats. Most notably his adoring dog Phoebe, who never left his side.
Joseph graduated from Arkansas Tech University and went on to work for and retire from the Social Security office in Russellville, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his mother India Marie Hurdle and her husband Joseph Hurdle; sister Doris and her husband Daniel Hoffman; brother Charlie Mizelle Hurdle and his wife Marie; sister Emma Hurdle Fletcher and husband Charles; brother, Fred Smith; brother, Harvey Lemuel Hurdle; brother, Carlton Leroy Smith and wife Ann.
Joe lived in the apartments that he owned and considered all his tenants through the years, not just tenants, but family.
