Barry Platt Obituary

Barry Platt

Moorestown - Husband of the late Greta Platt, Brother of the late Louise Amsterdam, Father of Cheryl (Matthew Carter) Platt, Susan (Joseph) Knoll and Stephen (Maria) Platt. Grandfather of Domenica, Anthony, Zachary, Jacqueline, Charlee and Mackenzie.

Barry was born March 10, 1935 and raised in Philadelphia. He died on October 14, 2020 in Moorestown, NJ. Barry began working while still a teenager, learning the delicatessen trade and training as a meat cutter. This gave him the opportunity to lease and operate a gas station. This endeavor prospered and enabled Barry to invest in a number of enterprises, such as, gas stations, heating oil businesses, car washes and laundromats.

During this time, he was courting Greta who later became his wife of sixty plus years. They enjoyed spending time between Ventnor NJ and Naples FL where their doors were always open to family and friends alike.

Relatives and friends are invited to watch the live stream funeral service on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, beginning at 10:00 AM on the Platt Memorial Chapels YouTube page. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org

To The Wonderful Platt Family:
Barry & Greta were the most gracious people that I ever known! They were the first to have a pool in Cherry Hill. Their home was always open to us! Then onto Ventnor, where again their home again was open to many friends & family! Cards were always played at their huge dining room table. Barry loved sharing his extravagant hobbies to all of us! His upbeat personality was so contagious! His relentless diets consumed his life! The Atkins seemed his favorite. Greta was always making him cheesecake & whipped cream with special diet sugar. He loved entertaining us "Strawberry Mansion Gals". Even decorated strawberries on the tree outside their Naples Home when we spent a weekend there. He had a passion for Bussiness. I will miss our lengthy conversations where he would tell me how proud he was of each of Cheryl, Susan, & Steven. He went on & on of each of his grandkids. Knew every detail of their Accomplishments. He will always live on in your hearts. My Deepest Sympathy to all of you! Love, Florence

I remember the call saying Latrice we have a new case for you, let us know if you would like it, we think he would be a great fit for you too. I took the case and met Barry Platt. He did not talk much in the beginning but this one conversation started us off. How many children do you have he asked? I told him 8 and he laughed, asked how did I manage? I replied I don't know I just do somehow. From that point on Barry Platt became my best pal. One day he was really down and his spirit was not the same so I felt compelled to write to him. Just to remind him to be strong and that everything was going to be okay. I realize in life we all serve a purpose and that God chooses us for a specific task, well I was there for my season to uplift him with my words and he was there to show me strength and humility because I did not know what it entailed in the past. I thank God for sending Barry Platt my way and me taking the call, because I can't imagine being a better me if I did not have the opportunity to serve him at all!

He was my best client; a strict businessman, but mostly a man of compassion. To Cheryl, Susan, Stephen and family, I know you will miss him, but your fond memories will keep him with you as they do with me.

Barry and Greta opened their home and hearts to us and we have many fond memories of times spent together at the shore as well as at their home during the holidays.

And we hope that it brings you comfort during this very sad time in your lives as we all look back the times spent with your father and grandfather.

CHERYL and family I’m sorry for your loss. You Dad was always so gracious whenever I would visit down the shore! I remember how he enjoyed that front porch and his paper out there.

Barry and I always had a very special relationship. Greta would say we were both Pisces and that is why we got along so well. There are so many wonderful memories I have with Barry and Greta. Tennis, travel, parties, New Years eve at the "Platt" casino. I could go on and on. I will miss you Barry. There will always be a very special place in my heart for both you and "Gret".
