Charles Marrone Obituary

MARRONE, Charles J. On December 13, 2008, of Washington Twp. Formerly of Hammon- ton. Age 87. Beloved husband of the late Naomi. Devoted father of Sandra Matlack (Charles), Katherine Rubin (Robert), Laura Marrone (Michael Sperry) and Doug Holmgren (Kathy). Loving grandfather of Gabe, Rachael, Chris, Aidan, Shawn and Angela. Charlie grew up in Wilmington, DE, the oldest of 4. He served in the South Pacific during WWII and was a PT boat veteran. He married Naomi Richter on Sept. 17, 1949, and worked for ARCO for over 25 years, retiring in 1976. When his wife retired in 1979, they moved to Hammon-ton and enjoyed 20 years together in retirement. Charlie enjoyed many years of reunions around the country with fellow PT boat veterans, as well as watching his grandchildren grow up. He had the gift of gab, a great wit and enjoyed telling jokes and stories to anyone who would listen. He also had fun going to watch the horses run and playing cards with his retired buddies (usually having a winning streak). Charlie's gentle and kind spirit will be greatly missed by his family. Arrangements under the direction of EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, Washington Twp. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.egizifuneral.com. LAURA & FAMILY: MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES

JACK BRUNO

December 16, 2008

There was an office at Atlantic, that is what it was called when I started working there, on the 7th Floor. It was comprised of Charlie Marrone, Joe Ryan, Ray Shue, Bob Hastings, Bob Scott, Walter Mulhern, Mable Kiley and myself. I was the new kid (literally) on the block. I worked as the teletypist. Walt Kauffman, at the scale, called me the X-pert, because if I made a mistake on the bill of lading I had to X it out. Walt claimed my bill of ladings were full of Xs. Charlie was without a doubt one of the nicest people I have ever worked with. Witty, fast with the joke, kind, always kind, even though he might not agree with Ray or Joe or even Hastings. When I turned 21 in "66" the group sent Hastings to the Swiss Bakery to buy fresh Napoleons to celebrate. I often wondered what happend to Charlie. I am glad he had 20 good years of retirement. I left ARCO, as it was then called, in 1971 to have my first child and never returned. Please accept my deepest condolences. The world is a little sadder without Charlie. He was one of the good ones.
Sincerely,
Myra Bingham
