Edward Corbett Obituary

Edward P. Corbett

Haddonfield - age 58 years; passed away suddenly on March 10, 2021. Ed survived two bouts of Covid-19 last year, but his health was greatly affected, and he sadly never fully recovered. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Dorothy Corbett, and his oldest brother James. Ed was born and raised in Camden, NJ and attended St. Joseph's Pro Cathedral Grammer School in East Camden. In 1981, Ed graduated from Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill, NJ, and then attended St. Leo's University in St. Leo, FL. There, Ed majored in Theatre Arts and after his graduation in 1985, he went on to an apprenticeship at the Louisville Repertoire Theatre in Kentucky. Ed also performed in summer theatre in the New York Thousand Islands. Ed spent time in Los Angeles and New York City pursuing his acting dream and appeared in various stage, television and film roles. Ed moved back to South Jersey in late 2001, and at the time of his death was working as a salesman at Merchantville Overhead Doors.

The youngest of five siblings, Ed was always the family comedian, so it was no surprise he went on to act and star in Camden Catholic High School plays, culminating with the role of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof his senior year. Years later, he would return to the Camden Catholic Arts Department, volunteering his time and preparing students for regional Shakespeare competitions. Ed quickly learned that he loved teaching theater even more than pursuing his own acting career, and he gave his time generously to the students and the school.

Ed would walk confidently into a room and own it - pulling everyone in with his wit, charm and incomparable storytelling (likely inheriting the "gift of gab" from his Irish heritage). He had the ability of making everyone feel comfortable. He had a larger-than-life personality, and an infectious laugh to go along with it. And he would make it a personal mission to get everyone in the room laughing along with him - bonus points if he got you to cry tears of joy. Ed loved a good party and he was a great dancer - usually one of the first people out on the dance floor at any family or friend party and pulling others along with him. Ed was truly unique and so deeply loved by his family and many friends, whether they knew him for forty years or four. Once you were Ed's friend, you knew you were his friend for life.

Though Ed's life was cut short, he lived more than many people do in their entire lifetimes through his experiences, adventures and deep relationships.

Ed will be terribly missed by his siblings Patricia (Tish) Corbett, Mary Dymond and Tom Corbett, along with in-laws John Dymond and Monica Corbett. Ed also leaves behind eight grieving nieces and nephews - Meghan Fields (Morrie Fields), Patrick Dymond (Kerry Dymond), Kathryn Staudenmayer (Joe Staudenmayer), Michelle Kreider (Matt Kreider), Elise Corbett, Jack Dymond, Maureen Dymond and Patrick Corbett. Ed was a great-uncle to Rose Staudenmayer, Ronan Fields, Eilis Dymond and Conall Dymond.

Contributions in Ed's memory can be sent to the Arts Program at Camden Catholic High School, 300 Cuthbert Blvd., Cherry Hill, N.J. 08002

Viewing will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 10:30-1:00 p.m. at Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home. 6600 Browning Rd., Pennsauken, NJ. 08109

I recently just read of Ed's passing. I shared going to high school and the stage with Ed in his role of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof his senior year at Camden Catholic. He was such a force of nature, funny, kind, generous and more, all the best qualities in a person. My condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Ed.

I met Ed in Los Angeles in the 90s and he was the greatest guy. Fun to be around, people loved him; he was very smart, curious about life and filled with talent.
Rest easy, friend.

Ed, It was such a Privilege meeting you over the years. I’m really glad we got to know each other really well. Also, one of my favorite funny things you did was that you are at my Mom and Dad’s Wedding and you were on the Microphone wishing my mom and dad luck on their marriage and you were “ you are the one Patti you guys are the knuckleheads. That cracked me up so much. You are a wonderful person. We will miss you Eddie! Fly High and say hello to Mom Mom and Pop Pop Andris for me.
