Louis Shapiro Obituary

April 23 2003 of Cherry Hill NJ.
Husband of the late Ethel (nee Avrick) Shapiro. Father of Leonard H. Shapiro Joseph D. Shapiro and Jeffrey A. Shapiro. Grandfather of Sarah Rachael Andrea Deborah Sharyn Jessica and Samara. Great grandfather of Justin Zachary and Riley.
Dr. Shapiro was a long time resident of Cherry Hill who moved here in 1951 when it was Delaware Township. An employee of RCA he was awarded nearly 20 patents for the 'new' electron microscope and novel color correction system. When he retired from RCA he was head of their continuing education division of physicists and was renown in his day in solid state physics.
Dr. Shapiro also worked on the AEGIS Missile System. Dr. Shapiro was trained as a classical pianist. As there was no market for a classical pianist during the depression his focus became physics. He received his Bachelors Degree and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from CCNY received his Masters Degree from Washington University and his PhD in Physics from Temple Univ-ersity.
He taught physics and mathematics at St. Joseph's College Temple University and Widner College. He also taught at Rutgers University was Chairman of the Earth/Physics Department at Paterson State College and was a senior scientist with the now defunct Elion Instru-ments.
Relatives and friends are invited to services on Sunday beginning at 11:30am at PLATT MEMORIAL CHAPELS Inc. 2001 Berlin Rd. Cherry Hill NJ Interment will follow at Locustwood Memorial Park.
