Terry was the best teacher ever. His demanding methods brought out the best in us. I was thoroughly prepared for college thanks to him. It was a huge loss to education when he had to leave the field. Our Clark Kent/Superman teacher and friend will always be remembered. I am thankful for his friendship and advice he gave me during my career as a teacher. My heart goes out to his family on this sudden loss.

I wanted to add this note for brother Jack McGovern. My dear friend Bob Harding was able to realize that Terry's obit reflected our teacher because he knew you. So sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry, so sad to realize this is the passing of one of the biggest influences in my life, Terry McGovern. His teachings and guidance my senior year at GHS made all the difference in the world to me. Because of him, I willingly decided to go to college, and ironically ended up being primarily an English teacher over my 36 year career at the Brooklawn School. I used some of his ideals, like being persistent with students driving their expectations to where they could see what they really could be. I really, really am sorry I never told him about his influence on me. I hope he is looking down to hear my thoughts. My sincerest condolences to his family...

My deepest sympathy to the McGovern and Gottschall families. I have been a family friend via my best friend, Kathleen Gottschall Taylor. Uncle Terry will be missed.
