Alexander F. Scheller, 91, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Hamilton Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born August 30, 1925 to the late Alex H. and Marie T.(Hillenbrand) Scheller.

He was a Veteran of WWII in the Army Air Corp serving in the European theater, stationed in San Pancrasio, Italy. Alex was a tail gunner on B-24's. For many years, Alex and his wife of 70 years, June (Roberson) Scheller, loved to square dance, where they met many couples and formed lifelong friendships. He enjoyed woodworking and made many pieces of furniture for his family. He retired from Evansville Metal Products in 1987. He liked to spend time fishing with his family and friends and playing Clabber. Alex and June were charter members of Nativity Catholic Church.

Alex is survived by his wife, Thelma June Scheller of Evansville; sons, Stephen D. Scheller (Linda) of Newburgh, IN, Mark A. Scheller (Becky) of Lebanon, IN, Mike F. Scheller (Marci) of Evansville, and Anthony R. Scheller (Merle) of Newburgh, IN; grandchildren, Jennifer Scheller (Stephen Dubovsky), Christopher Scheller (Rebecca), Carol Schatz (Jason), Andrew Scheller (Leslye), Kevin Scheller (Catherine), Scott Scheller, Matthew Scheller (Abby), Melissa Scheller and Samantha Scheller; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Aidan, Cole, Drew, Alex, Devin, Harper, Isaac, Morgan, Nathan, and Hope; siblings, Rita Jackson (Earl), Larry Scheller (Kathleen), Norma Mayer (Don), Norman Scheller (Pam), all of Evansville, and Shirley Linnebur of Colorado; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dale and Robert Lee Scheller.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. on Monday morning at Nativity Catholic Church, 3635 Pollack Ave., Evansville, IN 47714. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the church with Father Ted Tempel, Father Bernie Eteinne, and Father Joseph Ziliak officiating.

Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
