Mr. Kohut was an installer for Western Electric Company, a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, an adult committeeman for Boy Scout Troop No. 67 at St. Agnes Church and past president of the Communication Workers Union. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed following Mater Dei football and wrestling.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie (Deom) Kohut; four daughters, Stephanie Thiel and Denise Kohut, both of Evansville, Theresa Lintzenich and her husband, Tom, of Indianapolis and Michelle Wildeman and her husband, Jeff, of St. Philip, Ind.; and five sons, Tony Kohut and his wife, Judy, Philip Kohut, Joe Kohut and his wife, Susan, all of Evansville, Eric Kohut of San Diego, Calif., and Jeff Kohut of Evansville. Thirteen grandchildren, Betsy, Jamie, Lauren, Lindsey and Logan Kohut, Gerard, Nathan and Ryan Wildeman, Zachary Thiel and his wife, Emily, and Meagan Thiel, Clare Lintzenich, Kristy Downey and Brandon Gaines; and three great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Jacob and Kyle Downey, also survive him.
He was preceded in death by three children, Nick, Eileen and Gerard Kohut.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, Rev. David Nunning officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin St., where a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church or Mater Dei High School Wrestling Club. Family and friends unable to attend may leave condolences online at www.pierrefuneralhome.com.
