Carolee Kinkel Obituary

Carolyn Lenora Kinkel

Evansville, IN

Carolee Kinkel died on December 24, 2017 at 10:48 pm. She was born in Evansville, IN, on August 19th, 1938, the daughter of Jack Russell Kinkel, Architect, and Margaret Carolyn Korff.

She was christened Carolyn Lenora after her mother and her grandmother, Lenora Korff.

Carolee admired psychologist Carl G. Jung and artist, Pablo Picasso from the time she was a student at Bosse High School. She said "Jung's words mediated my inner world, and Picasso's, ability to graphically express the multi-dimensional and archetypal aspects of people fascinated me. My admiration extended to Albert Schweitzer, a life-time role model, because he had multiple interests and talents, and a philosophy of reverence for life."

Carolee graduated with honors from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She was a graduate of ndiana University with a B.S. in Art Education. She completed two Master's degrees at the University of Evansville, one in Art Education and another in Counseling, after which she studied for a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. Her research focused on the religious function of the psyche.

Carolee loved to read. Her favorite books were: The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Ego and Archetype by Edward F. Edinger, Religion, Society and Psychoanalysis edited by Jacobs and Capps, and the biblical story of Job. T.S. Eliot was her favorite poet. Carolee was an artist; a painter, printmaker, and potter. In addition, she enjoyed swimming and spending time on Nantucket.

Carolee especially enjoyed mothering her three daughters: Margaret (Meg) Fitzsimmons, MD of Indianapolis, IN, Elizabeth (Libby) Raab, Architect, of Portola Valley CA, and Catherine (Katie) Kuester, R.N. of Evansville, IN who survive her. She is survived also by her grandchildren, Caroline and Michael Maxwell, Eleanor and Henry Raab, and Jon and Sam Kuester.

Carolee was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Evansville Day School, the Junior League of Evansville, the Evansville Country Club, and the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Social Sorority, and a graduate of Leadership Evansville.

Carolee will be cremated, and her ashes will be buried at the Lutheran Cemetery on St. Joseph Ave., in Evansville, IN. There will be no visitation. Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel 800 Hebron Ave is in charge of the arrangements.
