Herman Harker Obituary

Herman J. Harker, 90, of Evansville, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at Vista Care Hospice.

Herman was born on July 24, 1916, in Shoals, Ind. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1976 after more than 40 years of service. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a life member of VFW Post 1114. He loved to garden and was an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and the Ambassador Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruth (Karn) Harker of Evansville; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Gary Thomas and Donna and Tim Crowe, all of Evansville; grandchildren, Angela Thomas and Talia Crowe of Evansville; sisters, Ella Boegeman, Ann Schilling and Bert Harker, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Glendy and Bob Wilmoth of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Melba Harker of Shoals, Ind.; sister-in-law, Barbara Harker of Shoals, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John David Harker and Elizabeth (Kreitzer) Harker, and brother, Dewey Harker.

Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, with Pastor Robert L. Hetzel officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.

Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Browning Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 3600 Oak Hill Road, Evansville, IN 47711.
