Dr. Hargett was such a gently, caring doctor who healed my fear of going to the doctor as a young girl. I preferred yukky medicine to shots and he always accomodated my request. I remember him dropping by our home to check my sister for appendicitis as she was in so much pain and how he cared for me through the chronic ear infections and streph infections of my childhood. He was a lovely example of how to care for sick children. I am so blessed to have known him. To his family, thank you for sharing your father with us. I am praying for you.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family! So proud to call Dr Hargett our neighbor...such a nice, caring man. Our hearts were saddened tonight when we walked up the street and saw the flag lowered in his yard. We will miss him!! When he strolled down the street with his dog he always took the time to stop and talk. Such a GREAT man!!

I am so sorry for your families loss. My husband was a patient for many years of his and the family only spoke extremely fond memories and words of this very smart and kind man. I know that words can't express your loss but know that our family is praying for yours.

A fond memory of Dr. Hargett with Tom on Christmas morning at Tom's house in Fishers IN. The two were in their wheelchairs gazing out the bay window at the snow covered landscape. Sharing stories and laughs while breakfast was being prepared for all to enjoy. Learned a lot about his trials and tribulations, family, and biz. Remarkable man with humbleness and humor. The two courageous and inspiring souls.....together, again. Best to all the Hargetts.

Our Dear Uncle Ike. Our family has lost it's touchstone. You were there for us in any crisis or malady. Always confidently contradicting Ryan's WV pediatrician. Whether calling in a prescription for chicken pox (once Ry already had them!) or contradicting his growth charts! (Both you and his WV pediatrician were wrong!) Thank goodness, he grew to be taller than 5'5"! (6'2") :-) Whatever the situation we found ourselves in you were there and your opinion trumped all others. You were the concerned uncle who many years ago after a visit jammed money in our pockets for gas money or more recently became worried about us being attacked by WV bobcats, bears and rattlesnakes. Until the very end you were concerned about former patient Jeff Overton's daily score at the Greenbrier Classic! Your liberal views against our conservative ones always had the blood pumping! You never forgot a patient or a family member which is why we all loved you so. To say you will be missed doesn't quite say enough. Our prayers to Jane and to the rest of our family. Rest in peace.

When I was 3 or 4 I was CONVINCED the pain in my side was my appendix and my mother, Karen Donovan Magan, took me straight to Dr. Harget (luckily it just happened to be the same day as my annual check-up).
Dr. Harget knelt down and dutifully pushed around my abdomen for a few seconds. He then looked up at me and with a serious face gave me a diagnosis my toddler-aged brain could barely grasp: "Son, you have gas."

August 2, 2013

Dr. Hargett was my doctor growing up and I was always excited to go see him for whatever reason came up. For me he always gave me encouragement and advice to make me the person I am today. What a wonderful doctor he was. He always laughed at how much I was growing through my teen years. I still remember him bringing in the height projection chart and how he could not believe how I was progressing. You were a great Doctor and you will be missed.

He always remembered us and spoke of Zac often. Heaven just gained a great blessing. God bless his family at this sad time.

Dr. Hargett was the only Dr. I knew till I went away to college. I don't think my Mom would have survived having me as a child had it not been for kind hearted Dr. Hargett. Thanks for everything, you will be very missed.

August 1, 2013

Dr. Hargett was my pediatrician and served as a wonderful mentor to me as well, as I grew up. I had many ear infections as a child and saw him often, and so began my interest in Medicine. He inspired and encouraged me to become a physician, and he planted the seed that eventually led to my career now as a Geriatrician. I am blessed to be able to care for patients each day, and my hope is that I can provide care to my patients, with as much compassion and concern that Dr. Hargett always showed to me and my family.

Bill & family, so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. He was such a kind and thoughtful man. My father-in-law, Dr. Charlie Schmidt, was a dear friend of your dads, and he insisted that we take our daughters to him as their pediatrician. I am so thankful we followed Charlie's advise. Your dad always provided the best care possible and was a joy to to get to know personally! You guys are in our thoughts and prayers during these difficult times.

Dr. Hargett was my pediatrician, as well, and remained my physician all the way through nursing school. Years later, as his medical issues arose, I was able to assist in his care. The "circle of life" was not lost on either of us. Outstanding physician, outstanding person.

My very favorite pediatrician as I was growing up. He took great care of me (I was sick a LOT!) and then, when my newborn son was ill and another doctor decided I was just being an over-zealous new mom, Dr. Hargett took one look at him and put him in the hospital and made sure he was well before I took him home a week later. What a great legacy this man has left Evansville.

Our deepest sympathy to the entire Hargett family . My husband and I were privledged to have known Dr Hargett , called him our friend and I also worked with him on the pedfiatric unit at Welborn Hospital for nearly 30 years . .He was our childrens pediatrician and kept them as patients through college .He was our rock here on earth as we navigated parenthood with three little ones 3 little ones . He not only cared for his patients physical needs but their emotional needs also . He related to his patients and famalies at a very human and caring level. Working along side him , one knew how much he loved his family and how proud he was of each and every one of them, especially his grandchildren. The day Will was born he was 'over the moon' and for each one that followed I am sure . I have so many stories and memories in my mind of times with co-workers , when he went the extra mile and beyond for a child and that childs family, or times when he was just being a listening ear for a worn out parent who needed some reassurance ( me ) . One of his fellow physicians( Dr. Larry Beisel) called him " a Physician'
Physician " at a party once my husband and I attended in his honor . He has always been so well thought of in this community that just saying his name usually lights up the persons faces you are talking with . He was a very strong man of faith in God and lived his christian faith by being an example of kindness and humility. This may sound strange, but my husband and I have always thought of Dr Hargett as the opportunity we had to have known a 'living saint ' here on earth. This man I am sure had his human faults but they were over shadowed by the love he showed every day for his friends his family and his fellow man. I still have every hand written thankyou note note ( for straqwberry jam at Christmas :) ) and every Christmas card he sent us . I have all the memories of working with him, of stories he told us, medical knowledge he shared , personal conversations and wise advice he shared with me and my family . God opened up the heavens to one of His best and welcomed him home , and I am sure he said "Well done Ike!! Good and faithful servant, Well done !!. You will always have the gratitude and love of me , my husband and our children Dr Hargett . You will be missed . Love , Patty and Charlie Voight
