Evansville, Ind.
Jack L. Van Meter, 85, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the Evansville Protestant Home. He was born February 5, 1932, in Francisco, Ind., to the late Henry and Anna (Weber) Van Meter.
Jack retired from the Indiana State Police and later worked at Alcoa as a security guard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his children, Steve Van Meter (Teresa), of Evansville, Cindy Kerchief, of Indianapolis, Ind., Scott Van Meter (Lisa), of Evansville, Snooch Van Meter (Lorie), of Evansville, Cheri Gerkin (Pick), of Vincennes, Ind., Connie Baehl (Randy), of Haubstadt, Ind., Carrie Falkenstein (Matt), of Evansville, Spencer Van Meter (Deanna), of Bradenton, Fla., and Christa Van Meter (Shannon), of Evansville; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several stepgrand and great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Cox, Mary Madden and Lois Van Meter; brother, Gerald Van Meter; nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann Wagner Van Meter; brother, Bob Van Meter; and nephew, Bruce Rexing.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2017, at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. 1st Ave. Evansville, IN 47710, and continue from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Father Tom Kessler officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or Vanderburgh Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Dr. Evansville, IN 47710.
