Dr. J.B. Tisserand Jr.
Evansville, Ind.
Dr J.B. Tisserand Jr., 83, of Evansville passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and all his children on October 4, 2012.
JB was a brilliant and gifted man who excelled in all aspects of his life, as a husband, parent, grandparent, physician, friend, and sports enthusiast.
J.B. was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Bert and Elizabeth Tisserand. The family moved to Newburgh, Indiana, when he was two years old. J.B. graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in three years and St. Louis University in two years. He completed medical school at the age of 22, graduating in 1951, as the youngest doctor in the state of Missouri. He interned at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando, Florida, and then served two years in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon during the Korean War. He specialized in dermatology at the University of Michigan. He finished first in the National Dermatology Boards and was on the Who's Who List of Medical Students.
J.B. and his family returned to Evansville in 1958, where he practiced dermatology for over 30 years until his retirement in1992. He had a special interest in acne and skin cancer and always loved caring for his patients.
JB enjoyed golf, boxing, and horse racing. He was co-captain of the St. Louis University golf team for two years and continued to play throughout his life. J.B. entered the thoroughbred horse racing business in 1964 until 1981, racing horses in Kentucky, Nebraska, and Ohio. Through these interests and activities he had many treasured friendships.
J.B. displayed a strong Catholic faith and was an active parish member at Christ the King, St. Benedicts and Holy Rosary over the years. He also served on the local Cancer Society Board and the Evansville Country Club Board of Directors.
J.B. is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanne, originally from Kendallville, Ind. They met while she was playing in the Indiana Women's State Golf Tourney at the Evansville Country Club in 1949. They have four children, John B. "Jay" Tisserand III (spouse Jeanie), of Boiling Springs, Pa., Janet Atherton (spouse, Jim), of Orlando, Fla., Reed Tisserand (spouse, Carleen), of Newburgh, Ind., and Mary Tisserand M.D. (spouse, Michael Wagoner), of Newburgh, Ind.; as well as nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Marian Burger, Martha Ryan, Sarah Luebbe and Jim Tisserand, all from Evansville, Ind.
J.B. was a member of the following organizations: American Academy of Dermatology, Indiana State Medical Society, Vanderburgh County Medical Society, Evansville Petroleum Club, the Kennel Club and the Evansville Country Club for over 50 years.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2012, at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN 47714, and will continue Saturday from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 613 Cherry St., Evansville, IN 47713.
A Catholic Mass will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the church with Fr. Stephen Lintzenich officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Cathedral 1328 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47714.

I remember him well. He and my deceased husband Jerry had the same initials and joked together about it during Dan and Jerry's retirement sale. I was a clerk there and he was such as nice man. R.I.P J.B.

I was saddened to hear of Uncle JB's passing today. I remember he was such a comfort to dad during his illness. I wish that comfort to you now with your family around. It will be hard for you in the days to come, but remember you have family to reach out to.
