Jerome "Cheerio" Elpers, age 82, passed away Tuesday, November 07, 2017, at his home.
Jerry was born on December 11, 1934 in St. Wendel, Indiana to the late George and Lorene (Steckler) Elpers.
He was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church and the Knights of St. John in St. Wendel. He retired from Emge Packing Company after 35 years. He was also employed by the Posey County Highway Department for 17 years and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean (Klueg); two daughters, Linda A. (Tim) Meny of Haubstadt and Betty J. (Dave) Slinker of Mt. Vernon, IN; four sons: Thomas G. Elpers of Evansville, Larry J. (Anita) Elpers of Owensville, Roger L. Elpers of Evansville and Mark A. (Jennifer) Elpers of Wadesville and Jeff Riley; his sister, Donna Gries of Ft. Branch, IN and brothers Darvin (Bonnie) Elpers of Haubstadt and Eugene (Patsy)Elpers of Ft. Branch. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, and11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Dolly Martin and Dorothy Melton and brothers, George and James Elpers.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10 A.M. Friday November 10, 2017 AM at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in St. Wendel Church Cemetery.
Friend may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday November 9, 2017 at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time Friday at St. Wendel Church.
A memorial service will held at 2:00 PM Thursday by members of St. Wendel Parish and the Knights of St. John.
